Honda already did the dual thing. 1982 CB900 custom and 1983 CB1000 Custom. Why they needed that on a 96HP bike I will never know, I never used anything but the highway main gear but it was there and still works well today 25 years later.

I forgot that Honda did that. I wonder why they were the only ones to do that and only for a couple years? To me it seems like something that most people would want if they knew about it.

just installed a 19t counter on my 07 speedmaster, loving it. it had a 18t stock, and always felt like i needed 6th gear at highway speeds. it's now doing roughly the same speeds in 4th gear that it was doing in 5th before. it's lost a bit of power on takeoff , but is still pretty good, having more range at top end is worth the trade off to me.

Boale, 2005 america 18 tooth sprocket. Come down the 4 lane highway, turn up the side street thru town, kick it down 1 gear into 4th, chug up thru town 25 mph (speed limit school area) , bike is happy as can be (no lugging).

I put on an 18 and have not looked back.
Have the Freak installed now (after being talked into it by Bluespoke!) so have lost no grunt (I dragged a mate on a stock TBA and led by a length every time) I do have the pipes etc etc as well.
It is important to note that there is not a whole lot of difference (compared to a rear sprocket change) check out / study the following handy web site ratio chart

'02 America 18 tooth for 10K miles and still go for sixth sometimes. I don't like the sound of an engine that is revving up at highway speeds. If I wanted a go fast, a 'Busa or something that really could fly would have been the choice. At the chain/sprocket renewal whenever, I'll also buy a 19 tooth just to try it.

There are quite a few who have the 19T. Looking through the archives here, there were a few who double up (take a pillion and state there are no worries!

As the Aussies say "No worries mate!"

18 is the way to go love it, took a little bit to get use to it with two up pulling away from a light other than that it makes riding so much more enjoyable.
