I just came in from cleaning my boat which has been collecting crud over the past 6 months. When I got through I decided to crank the 4 stroke FI Yamaha up. First turn of the key and that baby fired up. I know it's fashionable here to deride Yamaha and Honda but folks they make some great engines. Anyway I was wondering what kind of confidence you would have if you were getting ready to go out on your boat with a Harley outboard.....

My Wife's uncle just bought a Honda 135 4 stroke. I can't get over the motor. We have been fishing with quite a bit. No smoke, immediate start up, easy on fuel and its willing to set there idling for trolling without shaking. Its awesome. I can't see why anyone would still go 2-smoke on a boat motor.

I have a Mercury 4-stroke 115HP and she's a beauty. I've been told by a couple of folks that my 2002 Mercury is actually made by Yamaha. Nevertheless, she's always run beautiful and no smoke is a plus.

That's what I miss about my old outboards! Last one was an old Johnson 235 v6. WHEN it was running right, it was a stump pulling monster, 2 or 3 skiers - no problem.
I love the smell of 2 stokes in the morning!

I spent all afternoon messing around with a 4hp 2str YamOB. Started on the second pull, after not being run for over a year. But, it wasn't pumping water. Pulled the lower unit, inspected, and cleaned the water pump impeller. Put it all back together, and still no flow???? I guess I'll take it apart again.

LOL, I run a 150 Johnson 2 stroke on a 2003 Triton TR-185....last of the carb'd V-6 motors. She is awfully thirsty, smokes like a freight train when you first start it but man does that thing come out of the hole and yeah, that two stroke smell at the ramp just before dawn...reminds my a lot of a carb'd twin and a chain drive on a motorcycle, that's just how it is supposed to be!

I owned a commercial diving company for years. Nothing but Hondas on my chase boats. I NEEDED them to start in the morning.

I have a freind with two Yamaha jet skis. One was a 1200cc and would go pretty fast. I assume it is similar to the same that's on one of the bikes. Probably not the ACE though.

Yamaha two stroke Waverunner engines are bona-fide marine engines. They have little in common with a bike motor. Synthetic two stroke oil and a properly adjusted injection pump or accurately premixed gas can burn with little smoke and fumes. They are tough and durable too. I have a 1990 model Waverunner III (650 cc.) with a ton of run time in both fresh and salt water and it still goes good. Of course, if I had someone else's checkbook to use at the marina, I'd go for a new four stroke in a minute.
