I know this sounds a little crazy...but I installed new Thunderbike pipes two weeks ago. After riding a 1k mile w/e...they seem to have mellowed in tone...getting softer. My gf thought so too, so I guess it's not just me gettting used to the sound...

Anyone else notice this?

Also I tried removing the baffles by taking out the allen bolt in the rear...but the baffles don't budge. I didn't see any other bolts...any clue on how to remove the baffles?

Thanks

Gregzilla,
I wonder if changing weather is causing your bike to run slightly different. I notice mine runs differently depending on the air temperature and humidity. That would also affect the sound of the pipes. For example, mine runs great when the weather is clearing after a summer rainstorm. I noticed the same thing with my old Yamaha. Maybe you have made some other adjustments. Air/mix screws? I know that some guys change to a smaller jet in the winter when the air is colder and denser. I think that richness and leaness changes the sound. I have noticed that when I run lean I get a pop that sounds like a hammer hitting a board. When I am running richer I get a more muffled sound. Anyone else notice this?

So, to summarize, it's probably caused by global warming and it's all George Bush's fault. Hahahahahaha... just kidding.

John

PS. I can't tell you anything about your baffles. I run Staintunes.

I did let out the airmix screws a little to get rid out popping, but I did that after they sounded mellower...but yes the weather here has been threatening rain.

Cody, most likely (as with Bubs), carbon buildup in the pipes from running richer is causing the mellowed sound. My Bubs have mellowed with age (due to carbon buildup), as have many others, probably the same with Thunderbike. But yeah, even with Bubs I've noticed depending on the weather and temp, my pipes sound different (which holds with basic physics since sound waves travel differently based on air density and temperature)
