I think there are 3 in that year and a reducer cone where the pipe meets the header. Be sure to leave the reducer cone or you will loose bottom end torque. Also be sure to rejet or you will run way lean.
I use an air hammer and a curved exhaust chisel to knock them out. If you use my method or the long chisel made from rebar be careful on the first baffle. Stay off the very outer edge a little. There is mesh behind it all the way around the outside of the pipe with fiberglass packing that others have had trouble with. Some guys have used a hole saw and extension with a smaller hole saw on it at the same time used as a center.

Welcome Richard. First, there are 3 baffles. They are round discs with a tube welded through them. there "may" also be a catalytic converter in there, depending on where your pipes came from. past that is a reducer. You'll want that left in. If your pipes have the converter material, you need to be very careful not to damage it...Ask me how I know... There are dozens of ways and preferred methods. Some like to drill out the baffles, some just drill holes in the baffles, some make a punch from rebar, I have used a steel pipe, and my favorite, a "T" post. Next, read this thread: http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/forums/...part=1&vc=1Ask questions. I ruined the first set I did...

The 3 sets I've tampered with all had 4 baffles and a reducer at the header end. For the end one, wiggle the tube around and after a couple of minutes the welds will break. Then get a hole saw and cut out the plate, taking care not to tear up perforated lining, aout 1/8" thick against the chrome pipe. the next 2 baffles are tack welded to the perforated lining and will knock out pretty easily. The biggest performance gain for me was after 3rd baffle came out. Welcome to the forum

What Lonzo said is true some have 4 some have 3 I have yet to do a pair with 4 but he is not the only one who reported 4.I have done 12 sets now if I remember right.

I wonder if the 4th baffle is the catalytic converter on some models?

I don't think so as that is a honey comb and soft. Thats why I get so much for auto cats the honey comb is made partly of platinum and they recover it.

All the baffles are the same. A round plate like an automotive freeze plug with a tube going through the center. The first and last baffles on the sets I've done are welded to the chrome pipe with the perforated lining (catalytic converter?) right behind it. The intermediate baffles are the same, but tack welded to the perforated lining. The only other thing in there is a reducer at the header end. Don't take out the reducer, it will kill your low end.
