I have another one to add to the close call list from yesterday. This one didn't end up as nice as the others. Got a call this morning that a friend of mine is the the hospital. Apparently he as riding his Daytona around a turn in the Outter Banks of NC and was HIT by a deer. He didn't hit the deer, it hit him. It was 5:30 in the afternoon, still plenty of sunshine, and he was only going 35 mph. His buddy behind him said that the deer jumped from the side of the road and landed on his front tire. Bike flipped, landing on him. Air-lifted to Virginia Beach, all ribs broken, collar bone broken, shoulder blade broken (ouch) and some road rash. His helmet was split open too, but there doesn't seem to be any head trauma. Imagine what would have happend if he was going fast!! I'm going to see him @ lunch today. Ride Safe

THAT'S going to make for one heck of a story at the pub after he heals up. Hope he gets well soon. BTW - What happened to the deer? Is your Buddy going to be eating venison all summer?

The deer got up and ran off. It's gonna be sore for a while too.

What possesses them to just jump in front of cars, bikes, etc. Are they attracted to a sound?
I will never forget my encounter with that deer in Utah. If it would have hit me broadside rather than me hitting it, I would not be here today.
Now, even the squirrels look much larger than they used to.

I almost pi$$ed myself the other day. I was riding down the highway at around 85 or 90ish when a deer ran up really fast to the road. I saw it coming but there was nothing I could do. Fortunatley it stoped and turned around but it was close enough that I almost lost my bladder control.
Let my dying thought be that every mile was fun and let my tombstone read,"They never made one fast enough for me."

A few years ago I had one jump out in front of me and stop. Luckily I was going up a steep hill and stopping was possible. I stopped about 5 feet from it as it stood there staring at me. After a few seconds it bounded off into the weeds and left. This was on a major highway at the edge of town. While I didn't hit the deer, I was in danger of being rear ended. My brother hit one last May and totaled his Ultra Glide. He spent the night in the hospital and looked like a raccoon for a few weeks. His wife was riding about 100 feet behind him. I’m still not sure which was more traumatized by it.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

Gee, that would have really been ugly had the guy been riding a Harley which apparently requires (at least if you are a real man) that you ride helmetless.

It was admiring the bike not staring at you

I couldn't have put that better(OR supplied more sarcasm)...MYSELF there, Sandy! GOOD JOB!!!
(I've just come to the realization that some people don't really need a helmet...'cuz they don't have anything to protect in this regard...yep, thin the herd, I say...and I'm NOT talkin' about any deer, like what's in THIS sad story EITHER folks)
Sorry to hear about your friend, John. Wish him a speedy recovery for me! And tell him I'm glad to hear that he felt that head o' HIS was worth protecting.
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)
