This article says they're talking about a merger. So where does that leave Buell? One thing from the article I never would've guessed was this factoid: "Half of all Ducati owners in the US also own a Harley"

Derek, It sort of does make sense. These Ducati owners cover all bases, a sportbike and a cruiser/tourer. As you know, I have a crotch-rocket (Aprilia Mille) and they are useless and tiring anywhere else except when ridden in a "spirited" fashion. which is why I have the SM (cruiser) and BMW (tourer).
Regarding Buell, I think they will be able to maintain the small niche they have carved out as they never really competed with the supersports (although perhaps they will with the Duck Monster, even though I still think they are different animals).

I doubt if a merger like that will ever happen.

Probably make a bunch of Harley owners (and stock holders) a bit upset too.

The Harley dealer here in Vegas used to also be the Ducati dealer. In fact,I was in there in '99 and the salesmen were really pushing the Ducs.

Okay Yota! Put those darn muck boots away, WILL YA?! _________________
And I'm thinking the same thing as Soren here. I seriously doubt that this will ever happen either.
But, if it does, I'm guessing that just like Derek suggested here, that Eric Buell just might be left out in the cold. And, I suppose that we could count out ever seeing a Buell with some sort of V-Rod(read: MODERN) motor in it, too!
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

It is the Mafia. This is what Jimmy Hoffa has been working on secretly since he went under cover several years ago. Also, the Alien influence is growingly apparent.. just look at the V-Rod and that trellace design on the Duck's... obviously not of this world...

It makes a lot of sense ($$$$ markets, merging young/old riders, don't already compete)...but I also would be suprised if it happens.

Let's not also forget that Ducati is owned by the Texas Pacific Group so the deal-making process would be local, therefore easier.

"Ducati once considered a purchase of Moto Guzzi, which has since been acquired by Piaggio."
Interesting that Vespa and Moto Guzzi are now made by the same people.

Don't forget Aprilla. I think it is Piaggio that owns Aprilla and Vespa, but Aprilla owns Moto Guzzi. It's something like that.
Not letting brand names die is an Italian thing. They will buy out a competing company just to keep the name around.

Practically speaking, the MG's are still made by the same people in the factory in Mandello del Lario. They are just owned by Piaggio as they were by Aprilia previously. Amazing how they have managed to survive through several ownerships throughout the decades ...

It definitely would be a shame to loose historical brand names. I am still torn up about Plymouth.
