I ordered a medium summer shield from clearview and it came today. It's quite a bit larger than the original but sadly I can't get it to fit the bottom brackets. It comes down quite a bit further below the headlight and it seems to ground on the forks. I'm wondering whether it's a good fit on a standard bonneville but won't work on the america because of the thicker forks or the rake angle.
1) does anybody have one of these fitted on an america? 2) can anybody verify that our fork shrouds (above the brace) are much thicker than a standard bonneville's? How much?

ok: To possibly save someone else some grief: The summer screens for the america and speedmaster are different than the ones for the stock bonneville. The hole pattern is a bit different and the America version doesn't come down as far beside the headlight. This accommodates the thicker fork tubes of the America. It may also explain the truly savage buffeting you get with the stock summer screen.
The clearview replacement plastic is cut for the stock bonneville and will not fit an america (although it's very nice looking).
Unless I find someone in Canada who wants this item for their stock bonnie it will be going back to colorado. I believe they'll allow the return but I'll have paid as much in customs and duplicate shipping as the screen is worth! Not to mention the cost of getting the memphis shades item.

Wow, darned expensive way to find out about THAT little quirk. Sorry to hear it. I was going to change out to a Clearview...guess not!

Pain isn't it Bill? I've ordered the wrong item a few times from various companies and it's been cheaper for me every time to keep it instead of returning what with duties, delivery and usually restocking fees.

Hi Bill, I bought a Memphis Shades 19" Fats for a Skuzki Marauder 800. I have modified it so many times that one of the mount screws stripped out (stainless screws into aluminum blocks never works). I bought a pack of helicoil repair inserts but the tap is not available, so I am on my own there (i have access to some tap&die sets at work, so I'll fix it in time). I'll work something out. The 19" is OK, but the 17" MS Slim actually worked better as far as buffeting goes. I used my RotoZip saw with circle cutter to cut the headlight hole up farther, and it did a good job. No matter how I mount it, I need lowers to stop buffeting since it all comes from below. I have the screen where I can see just over the top, but still need the lowers. Maybe I'll trim the top some if buffeting occurs after the lowers are installed. So try a RotoZip to cut the lucite or plexiglas, if needed. Best Of Luck! Ride Safe, Dennis

Bill, Don't worry. The 19" Fats will serve you well. I just needed lowers and didn't realize it. I would prefer a WindVest but can't right now. Ride Safe, Dennis

The Cleaview shields are VERY nice and look great. BUT there is NO Cleaview replacement made at this time for the BA & SM. It's not Clearview's fault the wrong sheield was ordered. They need a BA or SM with the SS to finalize a much improved screen (in different sizes) to mount on the summer screen mount with ease. Anyone that can get by the Devner area please contact sales@clearviewshields.com.Bob 05 America
