So here's my setup 130 mains 45 pilots 1 shim 2 baffles out third is drilled 3 turns out I now have a hard starting problem. I don't want to give it any throttle becasue I know what can happen. Any ideas? Would it help to run the mixture screws in some? Stock air filter & airbox
I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger......and then it hit me.

I 2nd the choke question. With that set up it should start no problem.

I would go back to 42 pilots. Its probably getting a bit to much gas starting. I had that same problem on an 03 SM.

I'll try it tomorrow without the choke and see what happens. It even starts hard when warmed up without touching the choke. This just started since I put the debaffled pipes on and/or shimming the needles. Not sure which one did it. I've had the 45 pilots in for a year and it started fine when I had the TOR's on. Weird hey?

Yes. Definately shouldn't have a problem warm and if you were fine before opening up the pipes smaller jets are not the answer. With my set up and altitude I am running 48s and 2 1/2 turns Starts fine just need to tweek a little st smooth out the idle. My open pipes are not that much less restricted than your drilled pipes. From my point of view I think play with the mixture screws. The shimmed needle shouldn't play any role in starting with throttle fully closed.

Please don't be insulted by my asking, but did you check the idle setting? While cleaning my bike one time I accidentally turned the idle adjust without knowing it. The bike was hard to start and I didn't realize why until I got it started and saw how low it was on the tach.

We're good there. And you are right.....start with the basics.

Why did you shim in the first place?
Regardless, pull the shims and go back to 42 pilots. What happens?

I pulled the snorkle and it seems to start better. It has more balls too. Now let's see if it'll help my MPG. (Another thread)

go back to 42 pilots , 3 turns out. put 1 shim under the stock needles. that should help fix the start up and even out the just on throttle. if that works then we can work on the top end. but it sounds to rich on bottom and about right on top.

I had some simmilar starting issues. I drilled my carb slides and now starts like a champ. Itll even start without the choke.
