Recently I have had my bike die on me going down the road. It first happened the weekend before last coming home from Old Orchard Beach. I was riding for about 1-1/2 - 2 hours and stopped for a coffee. Shortly after getting back on the road bike started to die same as when you need to go to reserve. About 4 or 5 miles. Thought maybe valve was screwed up and I had no reserve. Got it going and back to a gas station I had passed. Filled it, had a butt, hit the road no more problem from NH back to Ma. Earlier last week brother brought bike over. Sat in the driveway maybe 20 min. to 1/2 hr. Jumped on it to go for a ride within a couple of miles same thing. Got it to a gas station only took about 1.7 gallons. Got back on it fine for the rest of my ride about 40 miles. Yesterday again. Rode to Wachusett Mt. Sat at the summit about 20 min. Rode down got on the road and it happened again. Again after getting it going fine for rest of ride. Then stopped and visit the rent's for about 20 min. Go for another ride. Within 5 miles again. This time I got it going and it died about six more times before I got it back to the garage. When it die's if I pull out the throttle advance it fires up.Idle will be ok. Goose the throttle die's. I just got in my idle jets and carb balancer. I am going to be pulling it,the bike, apart later this week to rejet and then balance. Any thoughts on what may be going on. I am running the 160's from the freak kit. Does seem to be running a bit rich. Get a pfft trough the carb's every once in a while. I did get some 152.5's for the main and was going to do those at the same time. Also putting on some TOR shorts I got from Matt

sounds like it is starving for gas, maybe your vent line under the tank is pinched.
if life gives you lemons keep them because hey, free lemons.

I know it sounds dumb but have you tried cracking the gas cap open when it does this?

I've had this same problem. It turned out that the clamps on the rubber boots between the cylinder and carbs were a little loose. As for the cutting out...I haven't had that problem, Yet.

Swop the petrol cap for an after market one, mine used to this and has completely stopped. My mate who has a 2002 model his still does it every so often. Or as previously mentioned just undo the cap, replace and go again..

One of the things I thought of was the vent line. So when it happened I did undo the cap in case I was getting a vacuum. It did not seem to help. I will be working on the bike probably tomorrow and will be sure to double check the vent line.
