I spent better part of the day riding a favorite circle route full of curvy roads and suitable scenery. Thompson Falls to Paradise, 23 miles of Clark Fork river road to St. Regis (I had to record mile markers for an upcoming float trip) - 50 miles of I-94 west over Mullen Pass through Wallace (narrow mountain valley where the "I" is elevated above town), to Kingston, ID & then back up the twisty Couer D'Alene River to Wallace (another hidden town of 200 souls) for lunch at the Sprague Pole and back over Thompson Pass to, you guesed it T. Falls.

While taking some relief at a rest area below Mullen Pass, I watched a couple of loaded down HD's motor by, with big waves. I later found them pulled over at the summit. Being the curious type, I pulled in behind them. They were taking obligatory "Welcome to Idaho" photo ops. They kept looking over at me. I'm not that scary as I was wearing pleated trousers, a shiny pair of oxfords, a clean button down shirt and conservative striped neck tie, not the narrow kind, door-to-door salesmen favor (well, I made part of that up).

After pointing, laughing, smiling, hand signs and a couple of written notes, I figured it out. They were both deaf. Travelling from Illinois to Alaska. Safe travels guys .

Sounds like the way to travel!

On your trip through that area have you ever stopped at the Snakepit in Enaville (up the Couer d'Alene River Road from Kinsgton). That is my all-time favorite place to eat. We'll be up in north Idaho and western Montana next week on vacation. Cutthroat country ~~ here we come!

Cool story, Freedom. But what were you doing in pleated trousers and wearing a tie? Your going to give us Triumph riders a bad name.

Sounds like a great ride. It's been raining here most of this last week.

Nice story. I have a deaf daughter and I showed her this story. She got a big kick out of it.

Thanks for the ride idea! I haven't been that route before, and will take it when my backside gets used to the bike. Did you mean Murray for the Sprague Pole? Food any good there? Keep the ride locations coming! - Dale -

RevRob,

Didn't stop at the Snakepit, it was still closed when I motored by yesterday. Are you staying in this area? Bringing your bike? Give a shout, I may be on Lolo pass next Saturday, then again maybe I won't

Roadtrip,

Yes, the Spraguepole is in the center of Murray, all one block of it. The food is basic deep fryer/grill fare, but the location and decore' is pretty funky, including the stuffed woman peering out the second floor window.

No bike ~~ just fishing and spending time with friends and family this trip. We will be staying most of the time near Eureka, Montana at a cabin on Glen Lake. I wish I was bringing the bike ~~ maybe next time. I love the Snakepit.
