Hi all, Since this is motorcycle related, I thought I would show you of fews pics from a project that I finished tonight. It was simple and is the very basics in machining, but you don't get to see it everyday. I ordered a set of easy brackets and the vendor sent me the wrong ones. I needed the set for the sissy bar. So I am running out of time before my trip and I didn't want to wait any longer to get my bags mounted. So I machined a couple of spacers until the correct parts get here. So here are some pics, Here is how it started, a piece of aluminum. This is the two spacers completed You will notice that the post on the right is two colors, that is the spacer. And finally the reason I did it!

Hey Guys, thanks for the comments!
Phil, The top case is the JC Whitney Large case that they sell for 89 bucks and the side cases are Givi cases bolted to the Easy Brackets.
Steve, Maybe next year!
As for the Garage and equipment, my equipment is cheap and the garage is just a luxury. I bought that lathe 7 or 8 years ago and the first 2 or 3 years I had it, I machine out of our extra/laundry room in the back of the house. Through college I made a decent living making gun and RC racing parts. I was glad I started in the house, it makes you a clean freak. We had dogs at the time and I terrified they would eat a metal chip. That lathe looked brand new for 3 years. Now during the winter I machine miniature engines for model engineering shows but it takes two or three years to complete one. So little projects like this one is fun because they are quick and simple. If I can do it anyone can, Dean

I'm sure you learned how well panty-hose will clean up metal shavings! Thanks for your sharing your ideas. I LOVE Givi stuff.

Dean how do you like the JC Whitney top case. Its larger than I thought it would be. Seems like a good buy for 90 bucks. I'd like to get the hard bags from Newspeedmaster, but 600.00 ain't in the budget right now. Mark

Denis, Well I found out about the panty hose picking up chips, but at the time I was in trouble. Hehe
Mark, I was going down the same road you are now and here was my thought. First I had to find someone that was willing to paint the Speed master bags to match my bike and the local motorcycle paint guru wants 300 per bag. I am sure I could have found someone else, but if I was going to do it, I wanted it done right. So 600 bucks for the cases and 600 for paint.
So here is the thing, lets say my bike is worth 5 grand, would I buy my bike for 6 grand with the painted cases? I don’t think I would have. So if I won’t, I don’t know if someone else would. The JCW case is 90 plus shipping, the Givi cases was ~150 and the Easy Brackets were~150. So the total not counting my time and shipping was 390 bucks. Would I pay 300 more for the cases if I was buying the bike, I most likely would. Now if I thought that I was going to keep this bike for a long time, I would have bought the Speed master cases and had them painted but that might not happen.
I am going to take a week vacation on my bike at the end of the month, I will do a full review then. As for now, I am happy with them. I am making my bike my main transportation and I can now go to the grocery store. Now if I can just figure out how to get that large pizza home, Dean

Thank Dean, After owning a couple older BMWs with lockable hard bags I got spoiled. I have a set of soft bags, but I want some type of lockable storage. Looked at the Givi, but my MC budget took a hit with new shocks & springs. Looks like I'll be calling JCW for the top case. Mark
