Did anyone ever find a workable switch to replace the dummy switch adjacent to the starter button?

No, There was a long thread @ TRAT.net about the whole thing and as far as I remember they came up with nothing. Now "Dummies" on the other hand are a dime a dozen. Cheap.

could the turn sig. switch be used on the other side maybe? Never compared the 2 sides.

You'd think someone could machine/cast a piece in the same shape as the placeholder plastic plug (say that three times fast) and then mill a hole in it for a micro push button or toggle switch. Can't be rocket surgery.

That sounds like a challenge? I don't have a "machine shop" but while I'm tinkering in the next few weeks I'll give it a try. If it turns out decent I'll get the wife to show me how to use the digital camera again and try to post some pics.

A while ago I made a small chrome plate to fit the headlight blank, it had a hole for a toggle switch to fit, the same as my console switch cover. I actually gave it to Matt "Sandman" to fit to his bike but Matt being the busy worker he is hasn't got around to trying the fitting. Will keep you in touch with the outcome,, Stew.

You could also pull the blank out, and just drill a hole in it for a switch and put it back in.

Ya know I bet, if you had even just a tiny flat SS tab/blank thing like for the toggle switch, it could cover the lettering and look half decent. Or some black epoxy or something to fill it in? I dunno... Maybe shave it down? Point being, that blank is the perfect size, so modifying it is probably the easiest way.

A little of that chrome tape or rainbow tape would cover it too.Again WAY WAY too easy!

It's the black oval plastic thingy, just above your starter button on your right handlebar. It turns your headlight on/off on European models. I'd love to have it for deer "in the headlights" situations. There are almost 4 million people in Alabama and 1.7 million deer - I need to turn my headlight off at night sometimes, for only a moment. I use my starter button to turn off my headlight now, but it makes the starter run - unlike a GoldWing.
Keep in mind, I've turned my headlight on as soon as I start my motor since 1970. I don't need a headlight burning for 2 minutes while I'm trying to heat my carbs at 22°F.

yes it would turn the headlight on and off could wire it so left or right turns it on and center is off or just left is on or just right is on and the other way does nothing and center is off just like the signals. Would work for the driving lights too.

I looked at the switch closer today and it doesn't look like it would work on the other side to me.

The laws in Europe have changed, the no longer have that swith installed`. As I've stated on other threads, Norman Hyde carried these plug and play Triumph head light switchs, They were going to sell me one till they found out I lived in The USA.

Maybe if you contact Norman Hyde and explain that you guys want to use them for driving lights and not the headlight maybe they will sell you one.

I leave mine on all the time. Never shut the off. Makes for safer conditions. Its good to be seen and heard.

The headlight switch. Yes I have one. I remember the Aus govt brought in law to make motorcycles have lights on at all times. I was a manic opposer to that in my more radical days. I was VERY pleasantly surprised when my BA turned up with an on off headlight switch. Is it true you can't by them if it breaks? That's a bit stupid!!!

I bet you'd have just as hard a time finding one as the rest of us!! PRobably have to go in there and solder the wires together to have lights if yours broke

A bloke once told me that if you are riding away from a low sun (sunset or sunrise) having your lights on can break up your silhouette thereby making you hard to see. Interesting point, don't know how true it is though.

Hang on, So can someone confirm that the headlight switch isn't on newer BAs? I think I will ring my local spares and ask. If they make it surely they support it? (he says trying not to be logical!!!)
