It gets really hot here in Fresno and I am looking for a recommendation for a good summer jacket. Temperature is first concern. Safety is second. Cost is third. Go ahead ~~ recommend away.

First Gear also makes some nice products. Find an accessory store and try them on. Different brands fit differently.

I bought the new Triumph Blouson jacket (2007) - much improved over the previous one. I love it, it's water repellent and it will cram into a very small space. The Triumph logo on it looks pretty cool too. It costs $99.
It's lightweight and has zipper vents to let air in, if needed. It can be worn as a lightweight jacket or over a sweatshirt or something for cooler weather. It can also be worn as a regular kick around jacket. It does not have protectors. Check it out.

I ordered a Triumph Rochester jacket and got it just in time for the "Tech Day" event in Ct. It was very hot that day well into the nineties. It worked great! The sleeves and chest areas are vented with mesh. The elbows, back and shoulders have armor protection. I felt a nice breeze while riding.
if life gives you lemons keep them because hey, free lemons.

I also like the Joe Rocket Phoenix 4.0. Removing the liner lets plenty of air through, while still providing a good amount of protection via the armor. Just bought one for my dad (he's a Beemer guy) and one for myself.
I go to parties, sometimes untill 4. It's hard to leave when you can't find the door.

I too have the Rochester and would generally agree with Kenny that it is a good jacket. My only quibble is that Triumph provided no perforation on the sleeves, and the color is all black. In the Summer, those arms can get mighty toasty. Other than that, it is very good with great protection.

I have both the Alpinestars ACR Air-Flo Mesh Pants and the ACR Air-Flo Mesh Jacket. Nice combo for both protection and temperature.

Ryan, my sleeves are perforated on the under side. If they were perforated on the top you would have no protection for you arms

The Triumph Integra jacket has my vote (I know Gina has one too and likes it). The best feature is the rain liner, which goes OVER the jacket (so you don't have to remove the jacket to put the liner on), and stores in pocket on the lower back. Before I had bags on my bike, I was able to stuff a cheap set of rain pants in the back pocket as well.
I've never been in a heavy downpour with it, but I did ride for about an hour in a constant light rain and it kept me dry. In the middle of summer with temps over 100 I was comfortable in the jacket as long as I was moving, but if you sat for a long time it would start to get hot.
The rain liner has a large Triumph on the back, other than that the Triumph branding is minimal.
No complaints with it, although I wish it came in colors other than red and black.
Cost is about $200 from the dealer, but I remember seeing someone on eBay selling them for considerably cheaper a few months back.

You are right about the underside of the arms. Good point about the protection. I don't know how Tourmaster and Joe Rocket figured it out, but they managed to perf the entire sleeve or so it seems. I guess it is a trade off. For instance, I don't wear the full face in the Summer unless touring for fear that it might melt to my head.

Like the mesh Raptor myself. Not sure if they still make 'em. Fully perf'd and armored. List at $140; got one on eBay for $40.

Yep you are right... I was wearing it today...
And I HAVE been out in a serious downpour in it... Had to stop under a tree to get the cover out and put it on. But once it was on, I didn't get any wetter up there. Hadn't got my over trousers.... so my legs still got soaked but I can cope with that. And as a goth...I'm happy with black!!
I have (somewhere currently in the world) a Joe Rocket mesh Jacket I bought from a clearout at newenough.com I think I only paid around $35 for it (till the Customs and Excise thieves had there bit). I wore that in Oz and was impressed. I think it may have been too hot for the Integra once I'd stopped... I'm not sure where that it at the mo...I didn't have room in my case, so I posted it back to myself......Surface mail. That's 3 months. So still another month I guess till I see that again...

Dri rider from Aus make jackets that have mesh flow through panels and zip in wet weather liners. Good for the tropics.

I just bought this jacket off ebay, and its pretty awesome. Looks like a regular jacket, got padding in the elbows and shoulders, and its just plain black. price is good, and quality is surprising actually judging on the pictures they actually give of the thing. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TEKNIC-MA...101567131QQrdZ1

I agree with ya Mert, the Fieldsheer is a killer mesh jacket. My only complaint with mine is it says Fieldsheer like 4 times on it G
I never wanted to lead, and I never wanted to follow.
I just wanted to ride.

I'll throw in my vote for the Triumph Integra...picked one up at the beginning of the summer and it's been great. I've worn it in a good range of temps (55 to 90+ degrees) and it's been good all around..of course it gets a bit hot when you're sitting in traffic when it's 90+ out - but I'm not sure there is a jacket out there that wouldn't. It is vented very well, has removable shoulder/elbow/back protectors, and has the stowable rain shell. This website carries them (and all other Triumph stuff) at a good discount: http://www.madss.com/default.asp If you order on Friday, it's free shipping also!

I'm coming to this late but I run with a PowerTrip Voodoo mesh jacket with leather sleeves and armor. Got it cheap from http://www.motorcyclecloseouts.com. I use it right up to and over 100 degrees.

I ride in Texas heat and you can't beat the Cortech GX-Air for an all year round jacket. It may cost more than some others but it's well made (by Tour Master) with good protection.
