Hi All. (2007 Speedmaster) Yesterday I was balancing my carbs with the Idle at about 2500rpm. It was time consuming due to it going back and forth before I could get it to settle at a nice balance. By this time the engine was getting hot and the header pipe has blued just after the outlet of the engine. It then yellows for a few inches. What is the best way to remove the blue/yellow from the chrome. I did a search on blueing pipes etc for no result but im sure I read it somewhere. By the way I have also ordered the oil temp gauge from Brent so I can keep a better eye on things. Thx Derek

some use simichrome I think it was and lots of rubbing. I use Blueaway and some rubbing and Bluejob both good prodects. The blueaway leaves tiny scratches not really noticable to me and better than the blue. Any good metal polish will do the job with some elbow grease.

Like Dog said , either one is effective , get ready for lots of intensive labor , and BE CAREFUL - the Blue Away WILL leave fine patina scratches on your crome if you get carried away , I know.

Blue Job is your best bet...(now available in wipes!) Link: http://www.blue-job.com/index.htmlAlmost all local HD bike shops sell them. Notes: Our headers are stainless steel (not chrome)so they will turn yellow from heat. Blue job will make them white for a while, but yellow will come back...simply re-apply Blue Job & they will become silver once again. The key here is to not leave the choke out too long and, for GOD's sake REMOVE THE AIR INJECTION SYSTEM (if not already done) as this is the root of the heat problem w/our double walled headers turning black, blue & yellow. Cheers, G@ry J@mesMember since 02

Chrome don't git ya home! I've been rubbing my pipes and chrome with purple scotchbrite pads. It makes the finish look like brushed stainless. Now my pipes and chrome match the triple trees and fork shrouds. When my pipes get a little yellow (or baked on bug guts), I give them a quick rub again and it dissapears. Works and looks great. Also I'm a little too "lazy" to polish my bike every week.

Get some felt buffing wheels for your Dremel tool and some jeweler's rouge for stainless steel (both available at Sears, Lowe's and Home Depot). Only takes a few minutes. But then, when you see how shiny that area is, you'll be there a while doing the rest of the header pipes. You can finish off with Simichrome.

Assuming the Air Injection system is removed, you can prevent the bike from getting too hot if you leave it running for awhile to balance the carbs, etc. Put a large fan in front of the bike, and let it blow on the front of the motor, pipes, and cooler.

Based on this review of the Caswell Chrome Polishing kit, I just ordered the Caswell Tailpipe Polishing Kit. I'll post results when I've actually gotten around to using it.
