I'm trying to install the new cables I bought and am getting a little frustrated. I finally got the opening cable to fit after some filing and straightening of the tab.But now I can't seem to get the closing cable to tighten into the housing. The nut will tighten all the way down into the housing but the cable is still loose.

Has anyone else who has replaced their cables with ss have the same problems?

You talkin about the carb end Jim? IIRC, there are two nuts, one that sets the "height" and sits in that bracket so it won't spin, then another that tightens up to the bracket. It's a sumbich to get in there with wrenches, but I think little open ends work the best.

Benny,
No the other end, the end up at the bars. I tighten the nut at the end of the 90* tube but the tube is still loose in the housing.
Did you have to modify anything to get them to work?

Oh...

Ya know what, I think mine still wiggle too. They work tho, and I think I adjusted them as best I could down at the carb end of things.

no, the little clamp thing does not hold the cable much
more than a bit snug.

I wouldn't even call it snug. It does hold it in the hole, but it moves pretty easily back and forth. Funny I don't remember the stock one doing that, but then again maybe it did and I never noticed.

So as long as the cable is held in place it should be OK for the outer "tube/sleeve" to move around?

Ya know I don't remember stock doing that either, but it has been a couple years now, and I may have just never noticed. Mine have been in and do wiggle with no problems. Since the two cables kinda pull against eachother, once you get the slack tightened up, you should be fine.

The stock cables don't do that. They are tight. The after market braided ones are those that wiggle.

I've just installed some new braided cables and also found considerable "wiggle" on the closing cable where it connects to the switch housing. I can take some of the wiggle away by taking slack out of that cable, but then my throttle freeplay disapears (and I already have opening cable at 100% slack position at both ends). Any suggestions out there for further adjustment, or should I just leave well enough alone?

I have wiggle too. Throttle works fine tho. I wouldn't worry about it. Mine have been on for 3 years.

Much obliged. I took her out for a spin today and everything worked fine.
