I've got my brother-in-law hooked on the Triumph idea and he found this:
=========================================================
2003 Speedmaster, with 17,590 miles. It has been garage kept and well maintained by the local Triumph dealers. All services are up to date including the 18k service. This bike has it all:

New Specialty Spares Long Cannon exhausts re-jetted by a Triumph dealer.
Heel toe shifter
Floor boards
Idle Mixture Thumbscrews
Wind shield
Leather Saddle bags
Sissy Bar
Leather tank strip/cover
Triumph cover
Engine heater (I know but it comes w/ the bike)
Battery charger
and other extra carb and ignition stuff.

Truly a great bike, need to sell to pay bills and buy diapers. $5250 OBO
=====================================================
It looks pretty clean in the pictures and seems like a reasonable price to me. Opinions? I'll be going with him to check it out. Granted it's not an America (as I have) but it'll do!!

Offer them between 4,500 and 5,000. It sounds like a good deal to me.

Not to brag but I picked up an '06 for $5000 in mint condition w/bub pipes and 1400 miles on her. I would try and go lower. Its not a bad price but there should be a little more wiggle room. Especially w/ 17k mi and the 795cc engine.

Black '06 Speedmaster, BUB of course.

offer him the 5200 (as long as he can afford it) and be done with it.

You know and I know that it's worth that much and more so "just do it".

Some guys are gonna scream about book value. I feel the value is in what you want. The extras are worth nothing if they are not what you want. But if they are what you want the look them up and figure out about what they cost. Then look at the condition of the over all bike and the extra parts. Figure what you think the extras are still worth to you in the condition they are in now. 18,000 miles are quite a few but from what I hear our bikes will go alot farther but might be able to work that angle. I think personally it's worth the price if it's been maintained as well as you say.

I know where there's an America for sale with less than 300 miles on it in NW CT. I'll look into it further, and make a post later this week. I heard the asking price is around $6,000?

Thanks for the tips and ideas. He's not in a huge hurry, so will try for a lower price. One way or another though, he'll be joining our clan. I hope he'll forgive me for smacking him upside the head when he mentioned "sportster" as his first choice. At least I was able to beat some sense into him.

Just for reference, I recently sold my '03 Speedmaster with 10,000 miles and similar accessories for $5000.

I bought my '03 Speedmaster (with 7300 miles on it) a month ago for $5100 and the dealer was asking $5700. It had the extras already on it and it's in really excelent condition. So his price isn't that far off. imho

Bob

2003 Speedmaster I won't rise to the occasion, but I'll slide over to it.

yeah the only point I see for pricing could be the mileage. But as I have seen posted here it isn't really too high if you consider the amount our bikes seem to last. Tough call and like I said I might try and work the mileage angle if I was buying it.

We'll do some haggling and use the mileage angle to see what happens. Probably check it out Thursday, I'll let you all know how it turned out. Thanks again for the tips and info.

Haggle on the mileage if you want, but these bikes are in the quality range of BMWs, not Harleys. Most people are not realizing that yet. SO! Tell him to get it while it's cheap. I am looking to get at least 120,000 miles before the big bore kit.

I would also make sure the tires, chain and sprockets are good also.
