Has anyone tried to shutoff the Air Injector(s), by removing and pluging the vacuum hose that is conected to the Reed Valve Assy ?

If I'm looking at how this systems operation, right. The engine's vacuum increases when deacelerating, causing the reed valve to open. If the vaccumm hose was removed and plugged, the reed valve should stay closed, and not inject air. And if this works, it should be easy to put back in operation for emmision testing.

I haven't heard of anyone trying that, but if it does work it would be a good idea for people that live in areas were emissions testing is an issue.

Does anyone in the states have to have the exhaust gases analyzed? for a motorcycle? This just sounds outrageous!

Yep, your home state (Virginia). It's required in Fairfax and Prince William counties (Northern VA) for any vehicle weighing under 10,000 pounds. I need to buy a tank, or a vehicle older than 25 years for exemption. Hope these bikes pass with AI removed, as I my AI system wasn't returned with the other take off parts when I bought the bike.

I live in Fairfax County, VA. My car emissions are checked every 2 years. MC exhaust is not checked and is not a requirement. The AI was removed before I took it off the dealer floor. The emissions machines are not set up to check MCs. I don't think they make a gas cap adaptor that will fit all bikes and shops that do emissions don't have exhaust vent plumbing for all the different exhaust systems available.

2 counties in AZ have motorcycle emissions testing.

As for the vacuum line to the AI valve, that just modulates the air flow, doesn't shut it off. If you were going to disable it without removing the system, block off the hose to the airbox at the valve end.

Thanks JJ,

Looks like I stand corrected.

From http://www.deq.virginia.gov/mobile/homepage.html

"How the program works

These localities are participating in the program: the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William and Stafford; and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas and Manassas Park. A network of service stations, repair shops, motor vehicle dealers and other facilities will perform the inspections and emissions-related repairs.

Cost and exemptions - A two-year inspection may cost up to $28. In addition, a $2 annual administrative fee is collected by DMV at the time of registration. Virginia uses this fee to cover the administrative costs of the program. Vehicles exempt from the inspection include diesels, motorcycles, registered antique vehicles, fire and rescue equipment, and vehicles powered exclusively by clean fuels.
Waivers - When a vehicle fails the tailpipe emissions standards, a waiver may be obtained if a specified amount (currently $620) has been spent on emissions-related repairs for that vehicle. This waiver amount is set by federal law and may change periodically based on the Consumer Price Index. Repair work must be performed at a DEQ-certified emissions repair facility and performed, or supervised and approved, by a DEQ-certified emissions repair technician, no more than 60 days before the initial inspection failure. A waiver is valid for two years.
Dynamometer - Exhaust emissions are tested while a vehicle operates on a treadmill-like device, called a dynamometer, at 15 mph and 25 mph only. No high-speed testing is performed. This test will be given to most 1981 and newer vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating up to 8,500 pounds. The test is conducted by the inspector at the local testing facility.

Two Speed Idle Test - Some vehicles' exhaust emissions are tested while operating at idle and at an engine speed of 2,500 rpm. This test is only for vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of 8,501 to 10,000 pounds; and for 1980 and older model year vehicles or other vehicles that, because of size or other mechanical configuration, cannot be accommodated on the dynamometer.
On Board Diagnosis II (OBD II) Inspection - Most 1996 and newer model year vehicles will be subject to a new computerized analyzer check that will look for fault codes that may be present in the vehicle's on board computer. This inspection may be performed instead of the dynamometer or two speed idle test on eligible vehicles. . Visit OBD II inspections for more information.

Warren,
Geez man shut up eeh?
If my idoit tax and spend lawmakers get any wind of this they will be wringing their greedy hands in anticipation of another "fee" in New York state. This of course is directly proportional to their annual pay increase they vote for themselves. They could care less if it helps or hinders anyone, as long as they can collect some more cash from us.
