I Have an 02 BA. I bought used in Jan. 04. She has been running great until a week ago. Me and the wife were going to go for a ride, I cranked her up to warm, no problems. She ran for 1 or 2 min. then she cut off like you hit the kill switch. She cranked back up but did the same thing. I checked all elect. conn.and fuses. no help all she did was spin. no fire to plugs. I got a trailer a week later to take her to the shop (2 hours away). I tried to crank her one more time she fired up no problem. I rode around the block then 2 blocks then 10 miles. I could not take her to the shop (You can't fix it if its not broken! I rode all week with no sign of the problem. Then yesterday she did the same thing. I left her alone and came home today and cranked her up she fired into life for about 30 seconds then died like you turned off the switch. any body had this problem? please help thanks John

Yes, I had that problem. I think some of the '02 BA's had a batch of some bad ignitors. The dealer should know about it. I had mine fixed under warranty. It causes the problems you described.

I am having a very similar problem right now. I am beginning to suspect something in the ignition as well. Let me know if you find somethin out. I haven't had time to play with it this week and will be in Irvine, CA this week. Looks like next weekend's project.

Sounds like a heat sensitive ignition controller. Unfortunately, it's bolted to the frame under the tank, so it's quite a trick to try heating and cooling it AND getting gas to the engine to see if it runs.

John - if the dealer says I don't know what your talking about, I have the info and tech bulletin number at home. There was a series of bad ignitor boards in some early 2002 models, I have the VIN series numbers at home too. I had the same problem....somebody here on this board gave me the info about 2 years ago....it might be in the archives - but I have the stuff at home, can find if for you tonight. My dealer couldn't figure it out, until I brought him the stuff, they didn't seem to have the Technical Bulletin....but warranty did cover it. Haven't had a problem since. Becky

I am having a similar problem with my '02. Can you send the tech bulletin info? I wonder if it would still be a warranty item. I spoke with my dealer and he is not aware of anything with the igniter unit. He did say there was a tech bulletin for the pickup coil. Is this maybe what you are referring to?

Any luck John? I got mine running. See the link to my post: Re: Mrs. Robinson... the saga continues in the Miscellaneous section. Maybe that is what you need to do. Let me know how it goes with yours. Good luck.
