Hello everyone.
Lurked around here for a while but I figured now is time to introduce myself as I just bought myself a 2007 America (Sunset red and black).
I have already learned alot through lurking here and look forward to more. Looking to do a little customization on the bike but I have no mechanical abilities at all.
I have already ordered floorboards, a tach, and a dual headlight set for the bike.
Things I would like to do down the road. Add a set of mini ape hangers (kinda like the set on Kid Rocks bike in the custom threads, I would also like to black out the engine and pipes but I have no clue how to do that.
Anyways nice to meet you all. If anyone is ever riding through Newfoundland let me know.

Glad to see ya! Remember with the floorboards, they hide the kickstand. Be sure it IS locked down before you decide to get off the bike. Saves you the embarrassment of yelling for help to have someone lift the bike off you! What, you think just because I was dumb enough to let it tip over I wouldn't catch it with my body and get pinned under it? That was my baby! Bruises heal, scratches on metal last forever! Ride safe! eddy

Welcome!!! NOW call your dealer and CANCEL that order for the Tach...the Triumph tach is USELESS and it mounts in a HORRID spot for actually useing it...There are BETTER after market tachs for less $$$$ I wish some one had told me this when I bought mine!!!

I am curious as to your rationale. Is there another issue from your perspective in addition to where it mounts? You said "useless and it mounts in a horrid place..." My reasonable inference is that the useless adjective and the way it mounts are two separate issues according to the way you stated it. What is (are) the other issue(s)?

it is of no use at a low idle...it doesn't register well (accurately)at 1200 rpm or below...and when it does read accurately higher RPM its location makes it impossible to accuratly read unless your willing to lean over it, or it is near the "12 o'clock" needle position (not a good plan when under way) so your left to glance quickly, at the wrong angle, and guestimate your RPM...why bother Drag specialties makes one that others have purchased and mounted up near the speedo (a MUCH better location) that is more accurate at lower RPM...IE the "tunning balancing range"...at least thats MHO

I agree. On my TBA the tach works fine and serves its purpose. The aftermarket "may" be less expensive but I think they look "tacky" on the handlebars IMHO.

My OEM tach will be here Monday and I will render an opinion after I install it. Having said that, I would have much rather had a tach mounted by the speedo at the same angle.

Marik,
Welcome and congrats on the new bike.
I bought my bike a year ago June for $7,800.
Todate I have over an additional $2,000 in after market parts on it and it does not seem to end.
So get use to it.
As far as the OEM tach. It does what it suppose to do like everyone else I do not like the position of it.
After you get use to your new bike it will let you know when it wants you to shift. Seat of the pants thing.

PS
If I had to do it again, I would go with the performance mod's first and get it where you want it.
Then do the comsetics.

One reason of many that I chose the Speedmaster was because of a stock tach.
I agree that it does not read accurately at low RPM. I liked that it filled the console space nicely, but is in my opinion scary to look at when going fast.

Hey, Welcome to the group. I am new here too and this place is great. I've started slowly adding stuff to my Speedie and that's what is so cool (xcept for the $$ part). It's great to accessorize your bike for your own tastes and the members here are super at helping you make informed decisions if you need them.

welcome to the group. "As far as the OEM tach. It does what it suppose to do like everyone else I do not like the position of it." I like the general information from the tach, but, You have to take your eyes off the road! Thought I was pushing the bike hard before the tach to find out I was shifting in the 5000 rpm range, not even close to the rev limiter..... Ride safe and welcome to the fray.

Welcome. You'll learn lots here, and maybe some stuff you didn't want to know... By the way, what's the riding season in Newfoundland?

Well Richard, at about 50 degrees north latitude, I'm guessin' at the outside Marik's riding season is about 6 months tops!
Right Stew?!
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)
