I've got my TOR pipes and they are being installed as I write, along with the appropriate jets, shims, etc.
I still have the stock airbox; snorkle included. Does it REALLY help to take out the snorkle, put in a Unifilter, replace the whole thing with two pancake K&N's, etc.? I just want a better sounding bike with a little more muscle for everyday riding.
Suggestions?
AI removed, snorkel gone, added saddle bags and Triumph Off Road pipes!

There shouldn't be any "appropriate jets, shims, etc." with the TORs. You need that stuff if you start modifying the intake side of the equation.
Try pulling the snorkle out to see if you like the sound. However, if you do like it, you'll need to reject.

Pulling the snorkel and putting in a UNI could gain 3-5 hp depending on your pipes and jets. It is the absolute easiest upgrade you could possibly make and you could put back the was it was in 5 min. if you wanted to.

The FREAK or FREAK equivalent is is worth as much or more HP as the pipes. You'll feel the difference in power with the TORs. You'll gain that much more with the air box mod...
2002 Bandit 1200/ GSXR cams/ 1277 BB Kit/ Holeshot header and can/ 38mm flatslides/ a good head/lotsa hp/lotsa tq- lots of rear tires...

With the Freak conversion, can the stock cosmetic graters be fit back on? I know they have no real function, but I really like the look of the graters. Thanks.

Yup, now you have pipes that let more air out, you get great gains from letting more air in. If you have a later bike with the 865 engine, a better exhaust cam (get one from an older engine at a boneyard if you can) will help tremendously too.
