Alright, I don't know if this is in the right board...but I need some stinkin help!!! I have modded my airbox, gone to 135/42 jets, have tors. My bro on his 1200 sporty still beats me in a drag race. I don't feel like losing any weight either. I dump his sorry butt in the twisties but when I stop to wait on him at the intersections he wants to drag and ends up beating me. It's not by much anymore, but he still does it!! I know I am giving away 400cc and a few lbs of table muscle but c'mon!! I have to beat this ****** 1200 sporty!!
06 BA, TOR's, 17T front sprocket, 135/42, needles shimmed, AI removed, drilled airbox, K&N air filter, desnorked, SM seat and risers, drag bars, pro-grips....let's ride!!

Going with a smaller front'll help between lights but it'll make things worse on the long stretches. If you're willing to spend some real dollars dump the tor's, get yourself (in spending order) a freak, some decent pipes, some new thunderbike cams, a big bore kit, and some aftermarket carbs... or a rocket 3.

You could try the 17T sprocket. When I had mine, I left 1200 Sportys behind me. I changed to the 18T, not as quick off the line, but overall better for me, especially traveling. I wouldn't go to a 16 unless quick starts are pretty much all you care about.
The 135 jets for the TORs seem a bit high to me even with the airbox drilled. I assume you changed to a better filter like a UNI.
My pipes and jets are slightly different but I don't have any trouble keeping up with Sportsters and can beat most of them without a big bore kit.

Next time he wants to drag, let him take off and you just sit there. When he comes back, tell him you already went down AND back, what took him so long? In other words, let him ruin his bike racing it, save the good bike for the long haul. It's no wonder so many of HD's are for sale in all the local papers...lol

Do you need to go more than 110 for a long stretch? My Speedy with the 16 will pull that all day. Practical top end 115-120, rev limiter 127. The extra grunt you get off the line is worth it. How heavy are the TOR's compared to the stock pipes? There are a lot of mufflers that could add lightness.

the tors are quite a bit leaner than the stock pipes. I have the stock air filter in the bike with the bottom cut out of it to match the hole in the airbox. I have foam covering the hole in the box. the snorkel is still intact and I am not sure where to cut it at.(help with this would be appreciated) I am ordering a K&N air filter this week.

The snorkel will come out of the lid and the lid stays there. You may have to remove the lid to make it easier also depending what year you have there may be 2 more down in the air box if you take the element out.

Then there's the theory that the angle of the snorkel somehow helps with the airflow into the box. There's also those who might believe that the snorkel helps keep water from getting in. Maybe that's why some cut off just the bottom of the snorkel...the part that covers the air filter.
But then I ran my bike for over 2 years with the whole snorkel pulled out, and I didn't find any evidence of water getting in. Hey, I'm just passing along what I've read on the net....and you know how that goes. Just laying out the options.

I just had my first run against a Sportster two nights ago. I blew him away.
Could be that I was the only one who knew we were racing.

sometimes its not just the bike but the size of the "Cohones" that will get you the checkered flag
