the paint around the mouth of the gas 'inlet' (under the gas cap) on my '03 speedie is bubbling/peeling. I know that some with newer bikes have had this issue and have gotten warranty replacement..unfortunately this isn't an option with my bike. I'm wondering what the best approach here is..? I'm assuming that the best thing to do is to peel off any loose paint so that it doesn't come off on its own and fall into the tank. under the paint there is bare metal. Should I coat the metal with something (eg. touchup paint) so that the metal doesn't rust? if so, what's the best thing to use? or should I leave it alone altogehter?

I have had the same issue with my '03 Speedmaster. I have just peeled off the loose stuff and left the bare metal. No rust so far. I keep meaning to do something about it but I have no idea what to do. Whenever I stop into Manayunk Triumph I keep forgetting to ask about that. Stop there and talk to Buzz or Tommy, they'll know what to do. If I think of it, I'll give them a call.
Women and cats will do as they please. Men and dogs should just get used to that fact and relax

Get yourself a kuryakyn gas cap too - that'll save knocking the paint with the gas pump, and hide any ugly bits.

My 03 is starting to bubble as well. I guess I'll have to get that custom paint job I've been wanting.

Mine is bubbling a bit too... to the point when I stopped for gas last week after not riding all winter, I thot I'd NEVER get that friggin gas cap off! Oh, I have a Kury cap on my Harley... found out if you screw the cap part on too tight, the whole thing will unscrew... which is ok, easier to put gas in... still looks cool...<G> Mary
