My bike handles well two up. You just have to remind your wife to lean with you, and hold on tight.
06 BA, TOR's, 17T front sprocket, 135/42, needles shimmed, AI removed, drilled airbox, K&N air filter, desnorked, SM seat and risers, drag bars, pro-grips....let's ride!!

Easy on the leaning advice... I tell mine to be on me like a back-pack. Cause I don't really lean relative to the bike. We all lean togehter, and some girls aren't that good with the spacial relations, so if you tell them to lean with you they may actually lean MORE, or if you tell them not to lean, they try to sit up in a corner. Had both happen to me...

What's your combined weight? Within the stated factory weight limits you're fine. Exceed them at your peril.

No issues at 320 lbs here. I agree, up the rear shocks a bit.

Plenty of power, handles great at speed. However, these bikes can get floppy at very slow speeds (0-7mph) and a passenger can wear you out if the don't sit still. We've ridden over 300 miles/day several times with no issues.

Very true in my case. Twenty-five years ago when my wife first rode on the back of my '73 bonnie I told her to lean with me...was that ever a mistake. To this day she hates riding with me...why I ask...She says she hates the leaning!! Of course, being the young kid I was at the time I did take a few liberties with aggressive driving that I still pay for today.
I rarely ride 2-up but yesterday I took my 17yrold Son on a 40 mile ride and it was great. Other than the lighter front end and the need to concentrate more at slow speeds I didn't even notice him on the back. The "lean" affect for him must be natural??

No issues here combined weight about 325 or so, most of my weekend riding is 2 up.
I recall msf instructer talking about 2 up riding saying to tell your passanger to look over your shoulder on which ever side you happen to be turning to.
Therory being if the head moves the body goes with it.

Took the wife to dinner last night on the back of the speedy. If it wasnt for her holding on to me I would not have known she was there. Bike handled as per usual and felt no load at all. Gee I love my Speedy. Combined weight of 150 Kgs.

Other than my girlfriend almost dumping us the first time see climbed aboard, it is great! I have since taught her how to get on like she is not a 400 pound gorilla (she is a petite 4' 11").

I ride 2-up all the time. We are around 300 lbs. together and I leave the shocks set for solo. If you're over 300, you might want to click it up a notch for the best ride. I tried it but the ride wasn't "soft" enough for my wife, but we aren't over the 300 mark yet.
The bike performs great and I'm even running an 18T front sprocket. It's not quite as quick off the line with the 18 as when solo, but I'm still happy with the compromise.

The bike deals with 2 up just fine. I had the OL on the back a couple of times and learned that there can be a problem if your passenger rides. The only way for a person who rides to behave as a passenger is to hold on tight with closed eyes. Otherwise, the instinct to steer is just too hard to overcome.

mine handles better or seems to handle better two up, I think having a wife on board that leans with you helps, but she does seem to mover her a$$ about quite a bit when on the straights

The bike handles great, but my wife hates the stock gunfighter seat. A new seat is on the "to do" list, but not on the "I can pay for it now" list. Half an hour is about her limit.

I'm 245 and Brett is 100 and it is like he is not even there.
I'm so use to him I do not notice any handling problems, except he we starts wiggling around under 10mph.

425 lbs combined (or as close as she'll let me guess). Once we're over 10mph, I don't have much problem, but stability is an issue at slow speed. I did fit a set of Works' shocks which are a big improvement
To keep weight transfer constant, I have my wife keep her head in line with her spine and always peek over my inside shoulder in turns. She NEVER looks over my outside shoulder and doesn't lean more than it takes to peek over. This works out great and keeps everything consistent.

The peeking over the shoulder thing is fine, I just tell mine NOT to do it mid-corner, Even that much movement is noticable to me. Lately, she's been great, I think she transfers side to side before the turn, helps.

Um, I think I might have a couple of witnesses around here from the last few days that could tell you how good my bike handles 2 up. Saxtron and BigBill were behind my wife and I part way up Mingus Mountain before they thought better about trying to keep up. But then that's my 6th time on that road, and they don't know it at all. If you ride 2 up and want good handling, get the Progressive 412 Heavy Duty shocks, or something even better. I didn't get a huge improvement solo with the 412 HD, but 2 up they are a big improvement over the stock shocks. I had about 36,000 miles on the bike with the stockers, and have another 17,000 with the 412 HDs.

No problem. We just returned from a 600-mile round trip to Butler's Orchard. A full load of gear too. We cranked along at an indicated 80MPH most of the time.
Plus I have to say, my wife is very comfortable and natural on the bike, it's a big help.
The hardest part for me though is the slow speed turns.

Yes. The Bonneville America handles like a heavier bike. Fatter in the turns and less stable at bicycle speeds. Once you feel the new weight, you do get used to it. Slow speed handling is best with feathered clutch. You'll learn to accept the bike moving around while you are touched down. Some things just don't change. Best advice for the fairer-side pillion is to enjoy the ride. Want to explain to the wife the ins and outs of thier riding position? Go to a huge parking lot and have them steer for you by leaning their body. They'll catch on real quick. Oh so that is what happens when I move around, eh? Oh Cananda.

We did 1400 miles in 4 days-from Ohio to Colorado, in the fall of 2005-Great trip. Bike handles beautifully. We did put the Triumph touring seat on, rather than the pillion, and it was fine. However, she does prefer the BMW for long trips.

Try it with an 8 year old who thinks she's a daredevil on back...she does cheers, stands on the buddy pegs, flaps her wings, continuously watches for Mom, behind us, as if she's gonna miss something spectacular, and keeps the bike rockin the whole time....Telling her to chill out is fruitless...she loves to ride though...not afraid of anything...

Listen to this man!!!!! Watching him and Linda ride that road (and it's a serious twisty) was amazing. I was dragging pegs and still couldn't keep up

Parking lot is a great idea Jim! Thanks. Raynea is aggressive with me at high speed in the twisties. I'll tell you about dumping the bike later. Slow speed is a different story.

I am always two up on the Speedy and on trip all our gear. I have never found it lacking at all. The biggest problem was the Speedies stock seat so I changed it out for the America combo. I can quite easily run at around 110 mph with no problems.
