I had the front sprocket change done by the shop last time. They tightened the h out of it.
I want to go back to the original 16 for grins, but can not break the nut loose. Looks like standard clockwise-tighten.
I have chewed up a few 1x2 sticks of wood, a 2x4 is too big. What do you use to keep the sprocket from turning while you loosen/tighten the nut?

Get someone to step on the rear brake for ya. Did you un-fold that washer under the nut? There should be one fold in it, kinda like the leaf in a table, folded against one flat of that nut. Just pry it down with a flat blade screwdriver.

I put mine in gear, got my wife to press hard on the brake lever, and I used a pipe extender on my wrench (torque amplifier). With a little effort, it broke free. The torque setting for the sprocket nut is 132Nm - a hefty amount of torque.

Harbor Freight Tools has an electric impact wrench for $79. A rattle gun works wonders. An air version is about $40.
