OK guys, listen up. I need help. I've decided that with summer being right around the corner and my schedule being as hectic as it is AND with the closest dealer being 4 1/2 hours away, i can't wait any longer to get the break-in oil OUT and some performance oil IN.... Just gonna have to do it myself. so, I've downloaded the pdf from Triumph listing the things to check on but I had a few questions before I got this kicked off. I'm gonna go with the Amsol Oil from eddy and probably a K&N filter, is there anything else I need to make sure i do while doing the oil change? Since it's the first one on the bike, I want to make sure I do what is "mandatory" after the break-in period. I should mention that 500 miles is recommended for break-in and right now i'm sitting on 800 miles. You triumph mechanics get your typing fingers ready and help a brother out.... cause I just can't make that 4 1/2 hour trip at this time and can't stand to let the bike sit and collect dust. thorn p.s. Eddy, you'll have an order sitting in your inbox soon.

If you are going to us Amsoil motorcycle oil, I would highly recommend using a Amsoil motorcycle oil filter. The new nanofiber filters are a much better filter in every category.

After recently doing my first oil change (with a members help) I'm new enough to say that I'm not qualified to give advice as to what to use, but I can say that with the advice that you'll get here, it's an easy procedure. I'm an electronics guy, not a mechanical guy but with a little guidance it's an easy procedure. Don't be afraid of it.

10W-40 or 20W-50? the triumph handbook doesn't even list 20W-50 as an option only 10W-40 or 15W-50.
tcv - is the amsoil filter the wix? or the ea# oil filter?
how much oil do these bad boys carry? 1 quart? 2?
thanks for your help.

2 qts is about half enough..try a gallon or according to the handbook 1.03 gallons with filter change.

For where you live I would go with the 20W-50 syn motorcycle oil. The Amsoil filter for our bikes is the EaOM103 (Black) or EaOM103C (Chrome). The chrome filter will cost a little more. When I change the oil (I always change the filter) I add 4 quarts.
Note about oil filter: It is best to install filter when bike is at room temperature. Or recheck to make sure filter is tight when bike is at room temperature. Lube filter gasket with new oil or grease. Hand tighten only, but as tight as you can.

update:
decided to take a trip to autozone to see if they carried any oil suitable for the speedmaster.... couldn't justify paying an extra 20 bucks or so for postage when i could get something just as good down the road.
checked on the tech vault and found the list of oil and filters that fit our bikes.
went with Mobile 1 "V twin" 20w-50 oil and a bosch 3300 filter. hope it holds up. took it out for a short test run and no immediate affects. a case of oil and the oil filter costs right at 55 bucks. When i picked the bike up from the dealer i asked how much the first oil change would cost he said "150 bucks".
figure there's some accesseroy or something i could buy with that 95 dollars i saved.
thanks for all the responses.

p.s. had one HELLUVA time getting that original oil filter off. took at least an hour of prodding and cursing.
