For all you cats who purchased belt drives from Bob Oswald at QPD I have an FYI regarding them that may affect you.

While getting new tires mounted at the local Triumph dealer and having the cush drive replaced (40,000 mi.) the mech. noticed side to side play with the rear belt drive sprocket and upon closer examination found that the counter sunk allen head bolts were tight but the sprocket hadn't been counter bored on the other side. Nice catch Dave! Glad to say sprocket is now properly counter bored and loc-tighted (sic)

Wonder if thats why my original belt snapped at 1700 mi. while I was hammering throught the gears at redline.

Anyway I thought those of you who had one of these units may want to check it out for the counter boring issue.

Hummm.....
I have one of these in a box, that I haven't gotten around
to installing yet. Now I'm having second thoughts.

Charles, you shouldn't be too concerned. It could just have been an oversight on my particular rear sprocket. In any case it's a simple fix and very easy to check as well. The saved maintenance is worth giving the belt drive a shot. I certainly would wait until your chain has exhausted it's life however. (which is probably why yours is still in the box I'm assuming)

Yeah, you're right.
That, and I'm lazy!

Nothing wrong with that Charles. Toiling away can be highly overrated at times!

I had a different problem and I don't think I've ever mentioned it here. When my belt broke in '05, it bent my outer side-plate on the front sprocket. When I pulled it off to fix that I found that the rear bolts were backing out. Needless to say I pulled all the bolts, straightened the side-plate and red loctited all the bolts.

Just an F.Y.I. You gotta watch these parts.

John did you notice at the time if yours were counter bored?

Yes, they were, mostly. They probably stuck up a half-millimeter or so. I hit it with a counter sink bit just ever so slightly so that they were absolutely flush.
