That's the best way I can describe it. Bike runs fine, oil (syn) level is fine but when I am upshifting into 3rd gear, I get this metallic clink (not a clunk!). Kind of higher pitched if you know what I mean. What's worse, it's not every time.

Any speculation?

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. A friend helped me change the oil (I am a mechanical klutz!) and shortly after (few hundred miles) I noticed this clink, I checked my oil and needed over 2 and a half quarts! The light never came on so I hope I didn't hurt anything.

He's still my friend, just isn't allowed to touch my bike anymore. Could this have done something? Did I hurt my motor?

Just curious, does your oil warning light come on with the key on, but the motor off (i.e. does the bulb & sensor work)?

I have never run low on motor oil. No leaks and no loss of oil. I change it every 4,000 miles, and never is low. 17,000 miles now, so your oil low sounds very strange. Are you checking it with the bike upright (not on sidestand!!!)? When upright, oil level should be near middle of sightglass on lower right side of the engine.

Hi Tom,

Yes, the light works per the manual and I had my brother sit on te bike and hold it uprite, so it was definitely low.

I am afraid I don't have an answer on how to help you then. Maybe somebody else can jump in and help you with this.

Buddy,

Every once in awhile I have the same thing going on with my bike, just minus your oil problem.

Coming home from GA. I hit a strech where I could not get it into fifth gear and have a problem going from second to third.

I took it to the (new)Triumph dealer and the tech fixed it. I'm not that technical but he told me the nuts\bolts that hold the clutch springs were not torqued properly.

Bottom line I had the same noise you did and now it is gone after he fixed it.

CT. gang took the bike Gengras when I called them and told I bought it at Libby's they told me everyone can make a mistake now and then just bring it in no appointment needed and they would take a look. Fixed it right there on the spot I found my new dealer.

You sure you measured the oil correctly? Bike level, not on the side-stand?

Hi Benny,

Yes, I am sure. I added 2 quarts and it was at teh bottom of the glass. I added another half quart and it's right in between those marks. It's still there now too.

Does anyone think I could have damamged my engine? Runs fine as far as I can tell.

Your engine is probably fine as long as you didn't loose oil pressure.
