Just checking to see if anyone from the site will be attending the North Texas Norton Owners Association Rallye at New Ulm, just outside Houston, TX. Will I see you there? It is May 18th, 19th, and 20th. Here's the link... http://www.bmoaonline.com/upcoming_events.html

I'll be there, actually hosting the vintage bike show on Sunday. But this is NOT the North Texas Norton Owner's rally! This is the BMOA rally! TWENTY-THIRD ANNUAL! I know a lot of the BMOA members are mebers of the Norton club, but this is definitely a BMOA thing. See you there Levi!

HEY! I'm ridin' down sucka! I REFUSED to trailer this year I'll have you know...I WANNA RIDE! After I completely spanked your Slowmaster going to Arkansas, I thought to myself "Ya know, a bike that fast should be ridden". So, there is an extra space on the trailer this year for YOUR bike and then you'll have an excuse for when I go blowin' by you.

Keith - What happened to you at the Rallye? I saw you right when we got there, put up my tent, and BAM! You were gone! I couldn't find you the rest of the time? Where'd you go?

I was there, Levi. Keeping an eye on your bunch, but trying to help my BMOA people with whatever I could. I had a former co-worker from the Lexus dealership ride out with me Friday, and he stayed with me in Fayetteville Friday night. We stayed at the park until late though, and then stayed on the porch at Keiler's (in Fayetteville) until about two in the morning. A lot of the BMOA people stay there because of 1) the porch, 2) a hot shower in the morning, 3) roof in case it rains, and 4) close to Orsak's for that first cup of coffee and breakfast...For $50/night, you can't beat it, but we talked about getting some camping gear together and I am working on it. Took a 30 mile ride Friday before dinner to wind up at the Star Cafe - one of the loops from the "Fun-Run" from last year. Nice ride, lots of deer popping out of the bushes after six o'clock.... Saturday my wife came out, and a couple of friends of mine from Pasadena. Before the field events got started, my friend, my wife and I did the "Fun-Run" short route in the car, killing about two hours or more in Fayetteville for lunch and window shopping...she had never been to Fayetteville before but heard so much about it... Then after the B-B-Q, I hung out until about 11:00, I think, before I went back to Fayetteville to turn in. Took a different route there - what a blast busting down un-striped asphault county roads at 70 mph in the black of night not knowing where I was going....got there though. Sunday I had to register all of the bike show entries, and I missed your bunch packing up and taking off. You did not enter yours in the show this year! The new Hinckley Triumphs had the most entries of any category (10), and I think I have the club convinced (and it is MY call now), to diversify the category so we can have more winners with the newer bikes. That category is only going to grow, and it is in the best interest of the club, the Rally, and Triumph to promote the newer bikes. I think I am going to break the Hinckley bikes into three categories just like Triumph does it's new bike marketing - Classics, Cruisers, and Urban Sports. (Any thoughts?)

Yeah, my bike was so DIRTY from the ride down there and all the dust that gets stirred up while you are there, I was too embarrased to put it in the show. I'll put it in there next year for sure though, I just need to remember to pack some cleaning supplies! I think splitting up into 3 categories for the Hinckley bikes is genius, and that's the way I would vote for sure.
Are you going to try to make the Arkansas run we are putting together? It shouldn't be too bad a ride for you, and you might win the "Distance" award!

Riding your bike to a rally makes it kind of dirty, huh?

I had cleaning rags and polish, but by the time I got there Sunday I had to get into the swing of things with the show registration - my first time doing it, and I did not know what I was to do, or what I was in for. Piece of cake. I'm under that kind of fire all day every day at work.
I registered my own bike first, but had to get somebody else to go park it for me!
I really don't think the shine and sparkle is what "wins" a show award - more the uniqueness of the machine, and what other bikes are in the same classification. It's popular vote, and a lot of the voters do not know a lot about what they are looking at....and some just vote for one bike in the whole show and that is all - they just vote for somebody they know. Don't let the dirt stop you next year!
By the way - the wierd looking dude that holds the poker run ("Fun Run") was hauled off in an ambulance Saturday night right after dinner, and from Brenham they moved him to College Station. I hear he is on a respirator, and may have had a mild heart attack. They took another "heart attack victim away with him from the rally, but that guy was back out at the show Sunday I heard.
"Twitchy" they call him (his name is David Porter) has had several asthmatic attacks over the last few months, and I even heard he has inoperable lung cancer. Still smoking like a smoke stack....can't give it up.
I have ridden with him several times - planning the poker run routes with him last year and this, and rendeveauing with others for a crawfish boil we had back in the Spring - he rides more than anyone else I know and has three Triumphs in the garage - an Adventurer, a red America, and a Rocket III. He alternates on a different bike nearly every ride!
Anyway, I hope he is alright, but information is hard to come by. Thought you might have noticed the ambulance and commotion out there Saturday night.
