I just installed the EBC floating rotor with sintered pads. Bike stops real nice now but rotor did not install easily. Apparently, even though this floating rotor is sold for our bike as MD601LS, the rotor rivets that seperate the floating rotor from the section that bolts to the wheel interfere with the brake caliper bracket. The fix was to grind down the part of the caliper bracket that came into contact with the rivets. Otherwise, the rivets would clip the bracket as they turned possibly shearing off or worse! I would definetly recommend this upgrade, especially with the progressive springs, but don't think the install is for the novice mechanic like me!

REally? Mine didn't interfere. Are you sure you have the rotor facing the right way? Thanks for the heads up tho, I'm going to go see how close it comes to my caliper.

They do sit real close. Shimming is another choice. The literature suggest that shims may be necessary too. I have the front and the non-floating for the rear.

Moe. With all due respect, in Boale's case shimming wouldn't do any good He had to create clearance for his rotor which was already bolted to the wheel, not move the rotor closer to the caliper to center it in the caliper. And the mounting tabs are part of the lower forks .......Angelis

Interesting. I should note that I didn't have this problem (on a '04 America). I checked my receipt and also had the EBC rotor left MD601LS along with the EBC Sintered pads FA196HH from Motorcyle Accessory Warehouse (MAW). Anyway, I thought the install was fairly straighforward.

I'm beginning to wonder if my original rotor was so warped that perhaps it bent the caliper bracket enough over time to interfere with the new floating rotor rivets? The rotor is also installed facing correctly. If installed backwards than the rivet collars would also come into contact with the bracket creating even more problems.
