Well after listening to "grump", "greybeard and the rest of ya that have put the Freak on I just ordered it from Brent. Also bought some chrome dodads.

I can't ride when it is 15 degF and ice on the road, so I guess I can play with her in the garage and get my bike "fix".

Plan to take it to Bikers Edge and get it dyno'd.

will let you all know.

Anything I need to watch out for doing the install?

Johnny,

Search for the thread I posted last year "I’m Freaked!". Wrote up some of the gotchas. I've heard many of these problems have been worked out, but what the heck...

Can you really keep the chrome covers on the side with the FREAK?

I believe for the most part freak brackets have installed as designed. Between the "destruction" sheet and Phil's notes it should go fine. I downloaded a detailed sheet off the old ba page, but can't remember where it was located. A few people have had problems with the outside covers lining up properly with the brackets screw holes on final reassembly. Right side faux air cleaner cover seems to be the most common. I had to tweak mine just a little.

I'm fiddlin' with the idea of exposing the K/N's, but it's not a high priority. Remove the chrome covers cut some plastic, etc..

Putting on the freak is one of the most signifigant upgrades you can do from stock. I fiddled with the freak with both the side covers on and off. The bike definitely gets more air with the faux cleaners off. Since the stock airbox was underneath the seat and closed off from the sides. This meant no air flow was really going through the faux cleaners. Once you put the K&N's they could be directly affected be having the faux cleaners off or on. With them off, more airflow, more power. Plus with the faux's off, less weight. Not signifigant in itself but combined with removal of airbox and such every little bit helps. For every 100lbs of weight removed, its like gaining 10hp.

Sounds like many of us don't need to install the freak or even pipes for that matter, we just need to go on a diet!

All the parts are in. Went fine with the instructions AND Bonnyusa's thread.

BTW: The instructions say to take the top cover off the air box, there is no need. Don't hunt for all the screws just take off the snorkle and the front right wire guide (L shaped piece of plastice). The whole thing will come out as a unit.

Was just getting ready to rejet be for we went to the basketball game. So I quickly checked to see if I could remove the carb bowl screws be for I decided to take them out and low and behold they we fairly easy this time. So, won't pull the carbs. And wouldn't you know Brent's carb bolt kit showed up to day. It doesn't happen this good to often.

There is one hitch.... The crank breather or rather the hose. It is too short.
Probably will go buy so hose to replace it. What have you guys done with yours?

I am done.

Just came back from from a 10mile 28degF test ride. You warm up when your bike goes faster.

I did have to get a new breather hose and I temporarily mounted the breather. Got to figure out a nicer method.

I forgot to mention I got the slip on pre-filters from Brent as well. I wasn't sure if I would like the purplish color showing thru on on the right side, I didn't so I put the pre-filters on. They look great.

I also found if you have to change just the main jets, and can get the carb bowls off, then just leave the carbs on the bike. Get yourself a philips and a flat blade thumb screw driver and you are all set.

As for the performance it is as every one says. At 5000rpm the bike is what I whished it was off the show room floor.

If you can do it----do it. Infact if you are deciding between more chrome and the Freak get the Freak.
