Hello all-
Just wanted to make my first in the Lounge- not a Triumph America owner yet- but will be mid-next week. I'm getting an '06 with 1400 miles and quite a bit of accessories already aboard. Looking to learn alot as my only previous riding experience was an '01 Honda Shadow Spirit 750 that I owned for only about a year. I will upload a pic in a few...

Those look like stock pipes to me seems they have the rolled edge at the end.

Thanks for the welcome notes!
Would you say this is a decent deal:
Its an '06 w/ 1460 miles for $5900. The accessories that I know of include:
- windshield
- footboards
- heel-to-toe shifter
- spotlight bar
- sissybar and pad
- chrome rack
- tachometer on tank
I believe the pipes are stock and I think would be the first to go when I get her- any suggestions on what to get to open the sound up a bit more?

I would have to say that is a very good deal.
There are a lot of options for pipes. Depends on style and looks. There are Epcos, Staintunes, Thunderpipes, and some others I cant think of at the moment that mare made specificly for our bikes. Then there are just some generic slip-ons that you can get too (just about anything that is made for 1 3/4" headers).

I think for the most part you'll find the ride on the America and 750 shawdow to be pretty similar, similar wieght and riding position, the America's shocks may seem a little stiff to you at first only because the honda's are mushy, think you will find the America corners better also.
At lest that was my Impressions when going from Shadow to America, But then I had the 1100 Spirt.

Pipes...there is a huge selection to choose from,the ones Soren mentioned plus anything that will fit 1 3/4 header pipes meaning TONS of Hardley stuff or after market Hardley stuff.
As for my choice I am a huge advocate for saving the cash and knocking the baffles out. If you don't want super loud do 1 at a time until you have what you want. I knock em all out but leave the reducer cone in , thats important or you will loose preformance instead of gain.
That being said there is 1 more choice out there. There is a guy on Ebay (chevy605) He takes stock pipes and knocks all but 1 baffle out and drills 3... 1/2" holes in that one. I have seen a set he does a good job but weren't loud enough for me.

Here's a few. None are mine, but I have the BUB slash cut, they sound pretty similar to the dresser dogs (no longer available) in the one clip. But a little deeper with less crack.

1. Rejetting the Carbs...what does that mean and why would someone do it?
2. Removing the AI...what does that mean and why would someone do it?
Sorry for the newb questions- but as I am continuing to look online- a lot of people said these are two mods they have made and I was just wondering what they entail?!?! Thanks in advance for answerin the newbs questions!!!!

well on #1 you only need to rejet when you make a change such as airbox removal or less restrictive exhaust because you are letting more air into the engine. With more air you need more fuel to prevent a lean condition that could possibly be damaging.
#2 The AI is the Air Injection. Its the tubes by the spark plugs. They inject air from the air box causeing the pipes to blue.(it's a pollutioin thing) So people remove it. You have to get the plugs for the head and a vacume cap for th intake and a block off for the air box. It's available as a kit at newspeedmaster.com

Alright- that makes sense. So, since my first mod is likely going to be a new exhaust setup- I'll have to rejet the carbs? What does that all require?

1. These bikes come lean from the factory to please the EPA gods. Most mods to the intake and exhaust require adjustment to the carbs to compensate- jets, needles, etc. This is done for a few reasons - most being performance related- more air + more fuel, in the right combination = more power.
2. The AI is the air injection. Another EPA reg. We typically remove this before any performance mods. No.1 reason being to stop the exhaust pipes from blueing.
