I've had these in my head for a while and finally got around to building a prototype yesterday. They didn't turn out too bad, but I've already found a couple of things that I need to do differently. This first of which is probably practice a little more with my mig welder.

maybe a little changes but very cool idea and best part is totally origonal.
If I may ..I would put the top mounting bar behind the shoe an hide the welds in the back as well as make a spacer for the bottom so you don't see the rubber exhaust bushing. Evan at that I still love the idea!

That is a cool piece. What size shoe? Maybe you could use a workhorse shoe as a back rest rack. Continue the theme.

All the positive feedback is much appreciated folks! I'll have them on the bike for a while, because I don't get much time to tinker out in the shop, but there are definately some modifications that need to be made. I'll post an updated pick when...who knows when...I get the opportunity to work on them again.
I kinda like talishar' idea of working a horseshoe into a back rest / sissy bar. I may attempt that one of these days. I also talked to Brents Mom (Newspeedmaster.com) about machining me some bar end caps with horseshoes in them when we visited their place during the LOP Rally last fall. So...one of these days we may actually have one of those theme things going on.

Even if the backrest isn't MADE of a horseshoe like the peg hangers, attaching one would be real sweet! Maybe below the backrest between the posts or something. Isn't Brent's mom great? The end cap thing would be AWESOME! See if you can squeek a choke knob out of the deal too

For a back rest you could stack two or three horseshoes.
