I was pulling off from a set of lights when the engine cut out. I tried to restart it and it fired up on one cylinder only. After I tried to restart it again it wouldnt fire up at all.

There is no spark at the plugs. I have checked all connections I could see at the side of the road and everything seems fine. All fuses are OK.

Any ideas what this could be? Also for the last week or so one cylinder appears to be running hotter than the other. The left hand exhaust isn't as blue as the right hand. I thought it was maybe carbs out of balance, but seems it may be related to this breakdown now

Check your battery leads and tighten with super-human-like strength.

CDI or a lose connection to the ignition or a short. What year is it and which bike?

battery leads are fine. The engine turns over OK, just doesn't fire up.

Could it be the CDI unit, and whereabouts on the bike is it?

Part number "7" on the drawing.

Here's a document I put together in Adobe Acrobat format. It's packaged in a zip file to cut down on size. It's still huge at over 8mb. It contains all the Bike Bandit exploded diagrams and nomencalature. Unfortunately they're not Triumph part numbers, but Bike Bandit proprietary. It is NOT copyrighted.

Part Diagrams

Take a deep breath before looking at the Bike Bandit cost of the igniter.

Regards,

Tom

Start with the cheapest and work out. No spark at the plugs? test the coils. No output at the coils? check power to the coils.

If it is the CDI, talk to your local dealer. they seem to be able to warranty about half of these...

CDI unit is under the tank on the left hand side and has a connector block going to it, you can only check this by swopping it out with another, so if someone lives close by to you, give them a shout..

Make sure you did not pull the wires off of the coils. I did that before doing almost the exact thing you did.
