While out on my nightly ride tonite my new speedy stalled out twice while idleing at lights, it did start right back up both times and ran fine otherwise. Only thing I can think of was while filling the tank earlier with my full 5 gallon can some fuel went down what I'm assuming to be the vent tube, I cracked the fuel cap and drove it home without a problem. Could this have caused it to stall or should I be looking elsewhere. Thanks, Craig

Start with the easy stuff and check your idle speed. If it gets below 950, the signal from the timing sensor starts getting fuzzy and the ignition will get upset at trying to sort it out and quit.

At the bottom end of the vent hose on non-west coast emission bikes, there is a rollover valve that closes to keep the tank from fraining through the vent if the bike is dropped. It is possible that spilling some gas into the vent was enough to trip the valve. If this is the case, you should be able to fix it by pulling the valve off, drain the hose, and give the valve a shake to reset it.

Then there's always the "pinched vent hose"... Had the tank off lately?

I took a piece of small vaccumm line hose and stuck it on the vent in the tank and blew through, didnt have any obstructions in it, so I dont think the rollover valve tripped or the vent hose is pinched.
I started it up and checked the idle, it was at 1000 and the tach doesnt go any lower. I bumped it up to 1100, I cant remember what the dealer set it at, it was 1100 or 1300. I'll take it for a ride later this evening and check back. Thanks again.

These carbs are not the most stable/accurate things in the world... I set my idle at 1100-1200 rpm and it still gets a little "lazy" at idle sometimes. Another current post discusses running a hose between the 2 vacuum ports on the carbs - that is supposed to help a bit. I have yet to try it myself....

Looks like the idle was the problem, put nearly 100 miles on this weekend and it didnt stall once. Did notice that when the bike was warmed up the idle came up a bit and had to back it down some, did have to fool with it some from day to day, guess I'll have to find a happy medium and then forget about it.

mine wasn't stalling but my idle wd. quickly dip then come back up. this happened after a 50 mile ride or so. i had some unused clear 1/4 fuel line and yesterday ran a hose between the carb vacuum nipples and i didn't find this problem repeat. also barely needed choke on start up. it also seemed to run a little smoother at high rpm and the respomse seemed crisper. maybe i'm imagining this? any others have feedback on this hose mod?

i noticed gas bubbles moving through the clear line.
