Any ideas for a replacement? NewBonneville/Speedmaster.com has a nice one, but really - $60? Sorry any other ideas?
Man, if I knew anything, I'd be rich and famous...

I did an eye bolt, nylock, and one of those rubber faced washers before I got Brents. Gave it away to someone who needed it...

This one is cheaper than a cheap thing. Take the two broken ends and overlap them just enough to get the smallest tie wrap you can find over it. Use a black one and you won't even notice it. Mine has held for about half a year so far.

I used a double split stainless steel shaft collar for the speedo and 2 collars for the brake line on the SM's front fender. I had to fab up studs for mounting.I cut 1/4-20 bolts and TIG'd them on Pic's coming soon

I've had to replace the rubber loop twice in the last 5 years. I've always replaced it with another stock rubber loop. Since it costs about $5 each time there's been no push for me to go with a $60 chrome loop.

I used a soldering iron to heat the broken ends and reattach. Worked fine till I broke down and bought Brent's piece. That thing is like a fine piece of jewelry.

Okay I'm cheap but I like leather, so I used a small leather strap that I had laying around.

I'm cheaper and lazier than all of you. The dealer broke mine when replacing the speedo cable under warrantee. They gave me a new one, which is floating around my garage somewhere. I just cut off the broken loop and left the base to plug the hole. These things really serve no purpose.

When mine broke the cable was able to come in contact with the exhaust header. It burned the speedo cable's outer covering.Maybe your cable is a bit shorter?

Charles, I like the look of that one you made. Did you have to do anything to get the rod connector to fit the shackle?

Actually, a melted speedo cable is why it was being replaced, that happened with the loop in place on my new 03 America. That was 4 years ago and I have had no ploblems without the loop.

First you will have to thread a 5/16"??? bolt into the acorn nut. Then cut off the head leaving about 3/8" thereby creating a stud in the end of the nut. This will screw into the connector. You will also have to drill a hole through the connector for the shackle pin.Make sure you drill straight through. On the mounting side, use another 5/16" bolt through the fender with a washer on both sides.Don't overtighten as it may crack the fender. The shackle is a close fit so position it how you like it and then snug it down with pliers.Mines been on for over a year and hasn't budged.Hope this helps.Ride safe,Charlie.
