I am on a ride in Nag's Head, NC this week and on the way down I noticed the 'lighted' back area of my speedometer wasn't 'red' anymore. Thought the lamp blew but when riding at night the background was still lit (but still no red to it).

Is this a two bulb system (white and red)? My Haynes manual does'nt go into that much detail. Does seem to be a bit to get to them. Think this is a warranty part?

Thanks

The tail light bulb is just a standard 1157 (dual fillament). The top of the tail light is clear to light the licence plate but the rest of the lens is red. So, if you're just glancing back from the seat of your bike, you'll notice it is white, but if you are standing behind your bike, you should see red. However, if you are glancing back from the seat of your bike with the brake on, and you do not see any light then the bulb is burnt, likewise if you do not have the brake on and you see no light.

I don't think my 2005 speedometer light has ever been red.

The 'incremental lines' between the digits light up red. At least I thought they did!

Thanks for the reply Soren, but I was talking about the speedometer background, taillight works fine.

Thanks

Poke,

Its a two bulb system - but both are clear. If one is out the display will be be different. I can't say I recall red on the speedo display though - but that's off the top of my head. Wierd how some of the little details escape one's attention.

Anyway - the bulbs are accessible via the back of the speedo and are easily checked and changed by removing the cover. If memory is correct, all you'll need is a phillips screw driver.

Thanks:

I know something is different, may not be red, but something is not illuminated during the day That is strange how details get blurred!

Keeps getting blurrer everyday!
