We went to the Marcus Dairy bike meet today in Danbury, CT. with Uncle Charlie, LJ300, Matt, capn his girlfriend, Linda, Brett, I and CTSPEED it was a sight to see had to be 1000 + bike's in the lot we pulled into 99% Harleys.
After looking at the bikes we went in $9.00 a head to get into a Harley Flea market. LitzerSki told us about his neighbor that would be there with a booth, so we were looking for her. The only British booth there, so Brett and I were looking at some nice Triumph pins when this lady dressed head to toe in Harley gear comes up to me and says anything British S**KS. I being half deaf anyway did not hear a thing but Linda heard her and asks me did you hear what she just said to you. Well even if I did 55 years of experience has taught me that was neither the time nor place to debate the subject with her.
Well any way we made a deal on a couple of pins and went on our way. We moved on to a couple of booths down and Linda sees a nice leather purse and she is looking at it and the lady running the booth sees my Triumph T and just stares us down.
So we walked around a little more listen to the band had something to eat and then hit the road. On the way out a couple of the Harley vendors made it up to us one gave Brett a big poster and the lady at the gate let him in for free as it is his birthday tomorrow.
As we walk out to our bike (fate intervenes) who is parked right behind me, but the lady (who told me all British Bikes S**KS) with her boy friend who is frantically trying to get his Harley to start. By the time we got our gear on he had five of his friends working on the PIG and all it would do is spit and back fire. So I look at her to make sure she is looking at me and I hit the button fires right up.
As we drive away and they are still working on the PIG she gives me the finger. Pay back is a B***H. First time in my life I actual felt good having someone flip me off.

Wow thats messed up. I have been to tons of events many very heavyily Hardley and I have never heard of that crap. I have always had a good time talking Harley vs. Triumph with the guys and no animosity at all. The Marcus Dairy event included. I ran into 2 guys today while I was out tatooed from head to toe hard core Harley guys. One on a chopped Shovel the other on a chopped Pan They complimented Wendy and I on our bikes and we on thiers and stood there taking bikes for awhile. There is always some a$$hole to try and screw it up fo ya. I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience.

Wow John! I guess it's a good thing we got separated, not sure how I would've reacted to that. It was all I could do to keep Matt from yank'n the black leather trenchcoat off a 1%ER.
Martin, and I, had a nice talk with a guy an his wife. He had on a Triumph shirt, and she had a Deals Gap shirt. They were down south for Easter, and gave us some pointers.
We left Danbury to the west into NY, N on 22. Lunch at the Red Rooster. A bit more N on 22, then E on 55 into Gaylordsville. RT 7 N to Kent Falls.
The Falls were runing pretty good after the rains. Then we went home. The End.
Three more painful days, Uncle Charlie

And in the news from Western Colorado....
Managed to find myself between two clusters of bikes between GJ and Delta today. At the first stop, about 15 miles later, I ask a guy, "So what's the occasion, never have seen a poker run on a Sunday."
He said, "We're from the Harley Owners Group in Junction, and we're just riding the Norwood Loop." I apologized for crashing their ride, and told him I didn't mean to interfere.
He shook his head, laughed, and invited me to come along. I said, "No thanks, I've just got an hour or so before I need to get back home."
We wished each other a safe ride; they went their way, and I went mine, so much the better for having met...

Well I couldn't find my summer gloves for the life of me today. So I stopped by the only dealer that was open. As much as am not a fan of the brand, you can't go in a Harley stealership and not be impressed. But then look at the prices and you know how they pay for that big building. 50 bucks for a pair of perforated gloves?! no way off to the local hardware store and got some mechanics gloves that even had the gel insert. But I did get plenty of comments on the triumph all were postive I think? One seemed a little backhanded, this guy comes up and says, a friend just got one of those when he couldn't handle his harely anymore. Hmmm? guess that vibration finally ran its course eh. And I got to watch the "riders edge" class, basically harely's in house MSF, you know they use hondas for that?
Sorry bout the morons every sport has their share.

I get a kick out of the Harley guys talking about the wild one I always have to point out...you know that was a Triumph Marlon Brando was on. I have one exactly like the one he rode minus the trophy!

Great read, John. Ain't it always nice gettin' in the last laugh! BUT, there's one very small minor little nitpick I have in your text here: You twice mention this certain individual of the female variety whom you classified as a "lady". Need I say it?(oh, but I WILL, of course....) THAT individual was NO lady, Sir. Cheers, Dwight (I mean, COME ON John...I KNOW your vocabulary is wider than THAT...USE IT, dear boy, USE IT...because I KNOW you could have found a more descriptive noun for her that STILL wouldn't have crossed the line into bad taste...there's a veritable PLETHORA of words in this language you could have used here, YOU KNOW???!!!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

With regard to the event as primarily a conduit to vendors, the guy we talked to about their NC / TN trip put it just right - "I paid $9 to go shopping?"
The bike show featured countless V twins, yet only 1 BMW, 1 Triumph, and 1 Honda(?) I'm not anti-Harley, but for rolling stock, it was a 99% Harley event. I guess you could say one could achieve complete and lifetime Harley saturation within the first 10 minutes of being there. It also seemed that the Harley bumper sticker crowd outnumbered the genuine Harley people by three to one.
It was a beautiful day, and good to see the Triumph Forum folks, but would I ever go back? Not likely, but I'll hold off in the spirit of never say never. It's cheaper and more convenient to shop online or at a cycle shop. I'm beginning to wonder if the Survivors Rally in Cherokee is more of the same. Time may tell.

Yeah but Martin, I put it to you.... Do you think there's a WOMAN TRIUMPH owner in the whole of the motorcycling universe who could NOT be called a "LADY"??? And I kind'a figure that the Harley/Triumph GENTLEMAN factor is highly favored on the latter side of this equation ALSO!!! (I rest my case)

It is not what they ride but who they are. I trust this particular "lady" would have been just as miserable on a Yamaha, a Rideley, or a Trump. Just happened to be on a Harley. Sucks to be her.

Ya know its always the "Ole Lady" who doesn't even own a bike that ends up sayin things like that. I get that on occasion and normally when the old man says Trumps are cool she changes her mind.

I mentioned to my brother this morning about going to Marcus. His last visit there was 20 years ago. His first reaction was a suprised: "There were vendors there?" Apparently it was more about motorcycles and a gathering than commerce in days of yore. I do believe that in the course of an hour, we were able to see pretty much the extent of what the Chinese have to offer in the way of motorcycle gee gaws and apparel. It seems the artwork on the web site is closer to what it was then, not what it is now.

Yup. Only negatory I've ever gotten was from a woman who is not a rider. "If it ain't a Harley, it ain't sh*t".
Said Molly to James, that's a fine motorbike.

John, Best part of the day was 7&1/2 Triumphs (1 V Star) pulling into the Dairy. Good to see you all. Martin and I had a nice ride down out of the hills to the flat lands of Danbury. When it comes to to most HD riders I never expect much from them, and am never disappointed!! Next time lets head north, and spend our $9:00 at ToyMaker Mark
The road goes on forever, The party never ends.

It is funny you always run into one nether hole that is enhanced with probably alcohol and ignorance for an olive. I have had all positive comp's on the TBA here in shreveport and arkansas, The young riders go out of there way to complement and all of us old guys remember the old days with smiles on our face.
It is a shame to run across that but the end result is what matters, she created the bad karma and was sleeping in the thorn bush and had the ever so reliable last great act of defiance left in her arsenal and that was a compliment to be signalled we are number one the true breed apart.

In any population, there will be a certain percentage of people who just ain't wrapped right and need to be under professional supervision and/or prescribed medication. Although the percentage within a population, type of 'problem' and extent of the condition may vary, it would be safe to presume that one or more of these folks will be present at any event with more than six or seven people in attendance. The larger the population/attendance at an event, the greater the number of people who are fruitcakes and the greater the variation in types of mental, emotional, or social problems these people have. For some reason, events such as bike rallies, shows, or like events seem to have a larger percentage by population of sociopathic inclined people who should not be let out among the normal folks (myself not included, since I'm a bit of a nut in my own right ) who are able to go about their business and enjoy themselves in a crowd without making rude, crude, or otherwise unsocial comments to complete strangers over nothing more 'offensive' as riding a British bike. Just my opinion.

PROzac???!!! I'll tell ya JB! As you have probably surmised after all these years around here, I already have TOO MUCH "zac" coursing through my veins as it IS!!! The Doctor has now switched my meds to this here new "ANTIzac" stuff, and we're gonna see if THAT will help better my condition some!!! This drug's so new it hasn't even hit the airwaves yet. We're gonna see what kind of side-effects it has. I remember him saying..."Hey Guinea Pig, come here! We've tried everything ELSE. How does THIS sound to you?" (hey, they don't call what these guys do..."practicing" medicine...FOR NOTHIN', ya know!)

I think you are right JB. I also think there's that mob mentality that brings about that behavior in people that might not otherwise do it. Sorta like how they interview people after a riot and some people don't even remember throwing bricks. They get so wrapped up, they lose control, ya know?

Seems that's the problem these days. Every good event sooner or later becomes a Harley gig. Marcus Dairy was never like that when I lived in Danbury up till 93.

Bike rallies are like talking to people on the internet. People feel like they're anonymous (or they ARE anonymous) and feel they can therefore say things to people they wouldn't ordinarily dare to say.

We have a few Harley shows in Victoria and of course i turn up on the 05 Speedmaster. At first they ignore it but given 15 minutes or so and you always have guys coming over crouching down checking out the engine and how it's set up. I enjoy just sitting back & waiting for the inevitable questions that start to come. Also niticed now down here that a few of the hard core bike gangs have members riding Rockets.
