Bracket, caliper, right side.
This is the part you break when you forget to remove your disc lock.
Vroooom! Clang! #&$&*($^%#%$@.....(went on for 10 minutes in 3 languages).
The rear brake lost all pedal and needed to be bled. I had to nurse it through 8 miles of Ft Lauderdale rush hour with no rear brake, and one mushy brake up front. Lots of engine braking, lots of planning ahead, lots of cussing myself out.
When you're dumb, you gotta be tough.

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

And Brian...DON'T beat yourself up too much over this. We've ALL made mistakes around here.
(pssst...hey guys....listen to THIS one)
Yeah, but this was the second time I did it. Both times in a hurry. Even with a Xena lock, I don't think I could have stopped it in time.
I'm thinking maybe a 'Hey Stoopid' sign to cover the start button.

Flourescent ribbon tied to the lock and wrapped around the throttle grip. Does two things: lets would-be theives know there is a disc lock on the bike, go to an easier target. Reminds owners to remove the lock before proceeding. Wrap the ribbon around the disk lock, into your pocket/bag and off you go!!
Women and cats will do as they please. Men and dogs should just get used to that fact and relax

Brian, I used to have a red aircraft landing gear pin ribbon, somewhat like what Tony's talkin' about here, that read, "REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT" sittin' around my garage somewhere, that could probably be the cure for this. I'd investigate something like that for future use. If THAT doesn't keep you from experiencing a third little "mental lapse"...well...I'd say you better just stick to the hope that whoever the lowlife out there who wants your bike bad enough the next time you park it somewhere where those lowlifes tend to congregate, are inept to well beyond the point where they can't hold down a friggin' job to be able to afford a nice motorcycle like the one you have, and couldn't steal it if they tried their "level best".

Most bike shops here that stock disk locks also stock a stretchy flouro cord for exactly that purpose. Lots cheaper than a new caliper. Be grateful you didn't break the caliper mounts off the fork leg instead.

How about one of those "remove before flight" warning ribbons to put on your right handlebar...

It happens man. I was doing brakes on my 83 Katana when my girl called me and told me she had a kinkey serprise for me. I went back to the bike , put on my helmet, and took off. I hadn't tightened down the right caliper yet. About 10 miles down the road, the bolts vibrated out. I hit my brakes comming up to a stop sign, and the calpier jumped up into the fork leg and then came off the rotor. It caught just enough of the rim to jam between the fork leg and rim, and abruptly locking the dront wheel. I went down like a bag od dodo . Lots of damage..........

Someone makes a footpeg that doubles as a disk lock. Can't ride off without a peg.

It's fixed now, I also had to bleed the rear brake, bend the rear turn signal housing back round and JBWeld a flaked-off piece at the mirror mount.
From now on, my bungie net gets one end hooked on the lock and the other over the start button.
