Just heard on the news. One of the 6 Blue Angels jets crashed while performing an air show in SC. The show was over water, but the jet crashed into residential homes - just hitting the news now.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070421/ts_nm/blueangels_crash_dc_3Very sad news. When I was a kid we went and saw the Thunderbirds at Hill Air Force Base (it was the first year that they were flyig the F-16). During that show one of them crashed. It is still wierd when I think about it. I forget if it was last year or the year before one of the Blue Angels crashed here during a show. Soren

That's a bummer. I lived in El Toro, CA, from ages 9 to 14 and used to watch them perform regularly at the base there. I doubt any of the pilots are the same, but it's a bummer nonetheless.

Seeing the Blue Angels or The Thunderbirds is kind of like seeing the Grand Canyon -- everyone ought to see them at least once. Truly awe inspiring the level of skill and degree of aviation technology displayed. Watching Fat Albert land in 900 feet of runway ain't too shabby either.
Let's hope the pilot made it the ejection handle on time.

I remember seeing the Blue Angels at an air show in the mid 60's at Bridgeport Airport. Still impressed.

Terrible news.
When I was in the Air Force I was stationed at Nellis for some time. We got to see the Thunderbirds on a regular basis. Even the best can suffer a crash.
Ride safe guys.

FJ, the pilots get rotated in and out in three years. Most of these guys will have been flying Navy/Marine aircraft for less than 10 years and will range from late 20's to mid 30's in age. The guys you watched have not only retired but their kids are flying now
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

I don't like these Air Show's .I have bad memories on it: Ramstein Airbase On the air cousin Frecce Tricolori an accident happened on 28 August 1988 in the context of a flight flugschau of the aerobatics relay, in which 70 humans died and 345 was hurt. See also flight tag misfortune. PETER

It appears from the news the pilot was low and clipped a tree. What a deal! The mood here in P-cola needless to say is a bit somber. I am sure the memorial will be next week. I just pray for the families involved.
