(this is the letter I WILL be sending to all of the local media outlets Boston Globe, Herald, TV 4,5,7,25,38,56 and 9 in NH, adjusted to fit the particular recipiant...feel free to do the same....)
To (Editor, News Director)
I am appalled at the coverage you have recently carried on the VT Murders, I refuse to refer to it as a massacre, because, sadly, it sensationalizes a despicable act. These were cold blooded, senseless murders. Your coverage and airing (printing) of the perpetrator’s message, video’s, problems, issues, gives him a voice WHICH IS WHAT HE WANTED…you have rewarded his horrific behavior, worse you have empowered those who would copy his act…after all look how much HIS story has been broadcast/printed…
Where’s the story on each of the 33 victims. He gets the front page, the breaking news teaser, the lead story, your grab for ratings is disgusting, and should be considered criminal, unfortunately there is nothing illegal about gutter scraping for a story. You had an opportunity to stand out among your peers by publicly refusing to air/print any of his photos, or anything else other than the most basic facts regarding him.
It is painfully obvious to me that you lack the creativity to have an original thought, or if you do, you lack the intestinal fortitude to stand behind it. The one thing we did learn from your pathetic grab for the dollars, is that he was inspired by the Columbine shooters and felt for them…..I wonder how he found out about those details, do you have any ideas?
How many more are you inspiring with your irresponsible programming, I hope for your sake that those you love are nowhere near your next protégé when they decide they need their fifteen minutes. But then you’ll always have your ratings to comfort you, right?

That's exactly what I thought when NBC Nightly News aired parts of his video and photos of him posing with the guns. His face and his story is all over the news and the front page of the papers, and the victims are almost being ignored. Sick.

FOX News has pulled the tape. Now just another 10 or 12 to go.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

CNN.com has had the victims photos and stories on them all day long on their home page. Every time I've gone back today its been a different person on their home page. They have a special page up with all the victims names & photos.

Weather the media is telling the victums stories or the scumbags story, They are doing the same thing. Making money off a tragedy.
Report the incedent...done.
Report the outcome of the investigation...done.
Anthing else is explotation and proffitiering.

A Brit's view.
At work we put the London Evening Standard out on the tables in first class. It's one of the reasons they pay twice the price - a free news paper, free coffee and a comfy seat. On the front page yesterday was the pic of the idiot (The AUP won't let me put exactly what I think of him) - the pic down the barrel of the gun. The punters could not understand why when they weren't reading it I turned it over. I found that a really disturbing thing to look at. It had a paragraph (read 3 or 4 lines) on each of the victims inside. The Times had about the lecturer who'd survived the Holocaust but dies protecting his students...I think that was either on the front page or page 2... He's a real hero.
Rob, you are voicing what any sensible person is thinking. Just most won't think about doing something about it.

I loathe the liberal media in America.
The VT shootings was a horror of the highest proportions, absolutely shocking. Sincerest sympathies to all affected by this tragedy.

That pic of him looking down the barrel of the gun..... great... just what the families need to see and remember because they all know that was the last thing that there loved ones saw before they left this world. Despicable!! Why can't the media THINK for once before they "REPORT" something!!

Well it looks like I was not alone in my outrage and disgust!! Nearly EVERY news show I watched last night had pulled all of the video and the only photo's I saw on those stations that DID run any were mundane....
WMUR in NH didn't even MENTION the scum in their reporting only the victims and their families...
(Thanks Kevin I try to find a new one everyday or so...some are more timely than others)

Fox and CNN have had the ratings by playing the tape now will pull it and lead for more ratings asserting that playing it was and is wrong. They are all alike, it has nothing to do with the public good.
Imagine being a family member of a victim and seeing this guy. Imagine the scars it will leave.
Hmm, makes me remember the scars of Jane Fonda. It is like collaboration with the enemy. He has been empowered like never in his life. Now every lonely nut can form a game plan.

What an incredible story of the professor that held the door shut while the kids jumped out the window, a Holocost surviver only to die at the hands of this piece of s**t.
If there is a god and heaven he is sitting right next to the Lord himself today.
The only reason they pulled those spots is because indiviauls like Rob stood up and let them know it was wrong.
Maybe something good will come of this whole mess, with the feed back and outrage of the general public to the media outlets over these photo's maybe they will think twice in the future before doing it again.

What particularly galls me is what I'll call "scapegoating by mental analysis." This modern-day tactic is in force for literally every kind of perversion, vice, bad-habit, crime, and of course now, murder. Nothing is anybody's fault anymore, - I mean, if you're a drunk - then you have a "disease." If you're a little crum-cruncher that won't pay attention in school - then you have ADD or ADHD. If you have a feverish lust for attention - then you have HPD (Histrionic Personality Disorder). Now, if you're a totally self-absorbed mass-murderer - well, apparently that's not you're fault either, because you were made fun of by other kids growing up. Interestingly, both the Columbine murderers & the VT murderer were taking psychotropic "anti-depressant" drugs.
The whole blame-shifting thing is getting a bit old - doncha think?
If I could pass along one thing to anybody that has reached adulthood, it would be this - "YOUR LIFE IS YOUR FAULT - NO EXCUSES!"
Yes there are "true victims," but when the definition of a "victim" becomes so wide that it diminishes the whole concept of what a true victim is, then our culture has truly gone nuts.
I will not be willfully "victimized" (through laziness) by the talking-hairdos that try to pass themselves off as journalists.
That's my two cents worth.
