I really like the look of a chopped rear fender. I'm seriously thinking about doing this, but I was wondering if anyone knows what the tail light/blinker options are if I do this. A picture might also be helpful.

Just look in the galleries. The axle mount seems to be the most popular but there are many other options. The axle mount can run anywhere from $30 for a cheap stamped version with an old style Lucas light to $300 plus for the high end billet lights. The axle mount is also easy to make with some basic tools and if you use stainless (my fav. accy. metal!LOL) you can then polish it and looks as good or better than chrome.

I had my fender chopped and a side mount tag welded onto my swingarm (really crappy job by my mechanic's son though; you live and learn)....be careful if you're running saddlebags though, cause you can't see my tag if I have my left bag on...you can see pics in my gallery.

start out by taping the fender on the bike to your desired length and shape. Take fender off the bike and using a cut off wheel cut it. Use a new wheel to get the cleanest cut. Use a wheel grinder to smooth the edges and bam! Bobbed fender. The side mount plate is Easy. Aftermarket lights will wire right up. I found my cateye in Custom Chrome. I mounted it to the lower shock mount with 3 washers, 2 lock nuts and a longer bolt. Found it all by taking the stock bolt to the local nut and bolt shop, the matched it to a grade 8.

If you really want to do this PM me and I could give you tips along the way. Look at my signature link to see pics.

i'm definately chopping that rear fender and going with the side mount for the liscense. i'm planning to leave a littl emore on the fender though. (to keep the brake light on the fender) i'm gonna have to get all the parts first though. since i don't have a cutting wheel, i'll need to take it to a shop somewhere.

If your gonna have it done you would likely take it to a body shop. Custom motorcycle shops might charge too much. There are plenty of fender mounted plate available in the aftermarket. You could easily do that part yourself. I am not sure about cost though. I talked to a lady about doing some custom paint on my fender a while back and she wanted like $1600.00 to $1800.00 for the picture airbrushed, prep and paint for the fender and tank (off the bike). I thought that was WAY to spendy so I did the prep and paint myself. Ended up settling for the pinstripe instead of the Sailor Jerry style pinup.

Thanks for all of the info. What happens if you mess up the fender? Is it easy to get another? I tried to google a fender search for the TBA but I don't seem to find any. I suppose I would have to order it through the dealer. I always like to have a contingency before starting a project just in case things don't go well....I've learned from past experiences

Sheetmetal for our bikes comes up on Ebay pretty often, A LOT cheaper than going to the dealer.
