As long as you asked... I've played bass in bar bands and got as far as warming up for major acts, (yawn! & so what
) but by no means am I an expert on music, so, with no offense to the kid, as he sings better than I ever will, but he's not ready for advanced A&R, nor would any major label be willing to spend much on him at his current level of abilities. That's just my opinion, and what do I know? If he wants to work very hard for a couple years on getting his vocal & stage chops up, he might be able to capitalize on the pre-teen market. He has the right look & persona for that market. All in all, if he does the ground work and sacrifice for a few years, he might make a living at this, as long as he doesn't sign anything prior to having an entertainment attorney review it first. He may already be on the hook to the TV show. I would think they get a piece of whoever appears. I'd be hard pressed to believe there isn't a deal like that. Again, I don't know.
I don't know any of the contestant's names, but in my five minutes of watching last night at the end when they do the recap, two of the three African American ladies have the right pipes, and could go big with a few years training, IMO.
Between all of them, they all need a few years of doing malls and state & county fairs, which is not an insult by any means - just that none of them are ready for the bigs.
The thing we can all take from this show is how the big leaguers make it look easy, and as we can see from this tier of talent, that aside from a few flashes in the pan currently making it on their looks, (with a heavy dollop of high end electronic chorus to mask their lack of vocal ability,) it's not easy to get a major label deal.
