I was asking the local triumph supplier about the rumour of the super BA; he has confirmed that Triumph are looking into it and said it would be out UK 2007-
Likely effects on depreciation of the current BA will be negligable in my opinion as its a new market and one is air cooled while the other is liquid cooled....but only time will tell...any thoughts?

I have a feeling that because of new emission standards in the U.S., that by '07 or '08 almost all bikes will be water cooled and fuel injected because it is easier to control emissions that way.

I wonder if this new cruiser could be the death of the TA/SM. Maybe they never intended to make it fuel injected.

I think Air-Cooleds will still be around for a while, but maybe carburetion may go south. I think Harley would cease to exist if they had to make all their bikes water-cooled. Maybe that wouldn't be a bad thing though.

Hiya John I doubt if interest in the SM/BA will disappear. There will be people who can only afford the smaller bike and there will be people who will no doubt have both. Hopefully by the time the new one comes out, I'll be in the two (or more !!) bike catagory. Plus the new bike, when it arrives, may well look nothing like the current SM/BA and people will want both for that reason.

There is plenty of room for that size cruiser in Triumphs line up. The hole between the America/Speedmaster and the Rocket III is so big that you could actually drive the Rocket through it.

Triumphant, My only worry on the rumoured 1500cc (other than lack of air-cooling which is very UN-Triumph {twin} like) would be the weight factor. If it increases drastically the nimbleness of the current twins is lost (and therefore defeats the point, IMO). Plus the Triumph twin "heritage" and "tradition" goes through the window, not to mention the current sound.

I have a new S3. That's not my point. My point is the water cooled fuel injected engine. The engine also has a catalytic converter and an O2 sensor. That engine starts hot or cold everytime. It idles at 1100 RPM no matter what. You don't need to touch the throttle to start the bike. When cold, the bike starts instantly and is ready to ride. The radiator has an electric fan. the engine never gets hot. There is no petcock and no choke. Hit the starter, it starts. As far as the S3, IT SCREAMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Water cooling and fuel injection is a good thing in my book. Dale

Bedouin, I am with you. Yes, there is room for water cooling and bigger engines in the Triumph lineup, Porsche survived it, Harley too, but my preference is with the aircooled, smaller displacement parallel twin, which is more traditional for Triumph. To each his own. The SpeedTriple is a sharp bike, and would like to try one someday, but I like the America, and so far can't imagine parting with it. Of course, i can also see myself getting way too cocky on something like a SpeedTriple and killing myself, so maybe better that I like my "sedate" America....

Bayern710,
One of the 3 bikes in my stable is an Aprilia Mille "superbike" and on this bike I am very fast but also extremely cautious. Please believe me when I say that the only time I get really "way too cocky" is when I ride my 05 SM and the chances of me seeing my a$$ without a mirror are much greater.

Being a long time Triumph enthusiast, I feel it is my duty to volunteer my services to bike and country. A new design like that would obviously require a great deal of field testing and, by the gods of wheels and petrol engines, I feel dutybound to give one a serious workout for absolutely no charge whatsoever.

I understand that someday all bikes will be water-cooled, fuel injected, computer controlled, soul-less pieces of mass produced conformity. That's why I bought my TA, it ain't none of that. It was love at first sight! Yes, there's a lot to be said for technology and the convenience it provides. But it takes something out of the equation for me..... The market has room without a doubt, I will be curious to see what Triumph comes up with..

This move by Triumph if successful will further put Harley owners on that slippery slope called depression when they see this Triumph. I always get bewildered looks when I tell fellow cruisers the price of my Speedmaster. I must admit the keeping the parallel twin is still unique and cool but question why not a triumph triple and decimate the v-rod to put Triumph on another level.

I don,t think this new bike will be the death of the B/A orS/M ,if you already own one there,s no reason the bike won,t be on the road in 20years time, thats if you look after it. I until recently still rode a ,66 Thunderbird and it,s still going strong.I love the twins as much as anyone but there is always room for a new Triumph ,It just makes choosing one that little bit harder.Life wasn,t meant to be easy.

Heheh, I just traded in my SV650 on a SM because I discovered (the hard way) that I can't really trust myself with the power and speed of a sportbike or crotch rocket. (While the SV is no Hayabusa, it'll still break 110 without trying too hard, and it'll wheelie like a freak in 1st gear unless you're careful.) After my inagural 100-mile ride on the SM yesterday, I'm fairly convinced that less power is GOOD, both for the integrety of my hide and my driving record. I might consider the upgraded '05 SM with the 900cc engine, but we'll leave that to another year. Besides, the Triumphs are just soooo much cooler. Duh. --Jaeger

Jaeger,
Wait until you break her in, switch pipes etc. I think after nearly 1500-2000 miles you start feeling the difference. At least my experience (on the 865cc '05 SM) is not too dissapointing power-wise (practically speaking in terms of daily use and grin factor) even although I also own and ride a very fast race replica as mentioned in previous post (Aprilia Mille 1000cc). The SM actually brings out the hooligan in me and it (the bike ... er.. and my hooliganism) seems to get stronger as time goes by (I am at roughly 3000 miles right now) Enjoy!

Well, she came with 2k on the odometer -- showroom model, was used as test-ride bike -- so she's pretty well broken in. I am looking forward to getting the fuel-air mix fixed to take advantage of the offroad pipes, tho. --Jaeger
