Hi,

I've just taken my brand new 06 America on her first few rides. I've noticed a slight high pitched squeaking from the rear brake ( I believe) when coming to a stop. The bike has just turned 100 miles so the brake pads should be fine. Is this common or should I look into it further? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Gracias.

It should wear in over the next few hundred miles. Not a problem to be sure.

Is it an intermittant squeek or constant? if it is intermitent (squeek -- squeek -- squeek), then it is possible warped rotor. Otherwise it is normal for new brakes and rotors.

Mine did that for a couple of hundred miles. The bikes are kind of like women. They squeel a little till you ride the h--l out ot them. Oops! Please don't tell my wife I said that.!!! Wait, That was the fork squeeking. Sorry.

I just put new pads on the rear and they also have a bit of a squeek. (More of a hum) I only have about 50 miles on them and it is driving me a bit nuts. I was worried and took them back off and re-lubed contact points to no avail. I do hope it goes away after a few hundred miles.

Put a pair of open mufflers on it and you won't notice the squeak.

Don't know about this bike but on my Harley if you lightly apply the brakes they would build up "glaze"....So you would just need to stop harder once and while....as some one told me once..."apply your bakes like a man"

Break dust can also cause a squeek. There is a coating you can get at any auto parts store that prevents break squeeking. You apply it to the pads when installing them new. Its made for cars so I don't know the effect it would have on breaking if used on a cycle. So if you decide to try it be careful at first.
And as said above if it goes chirp...chirp...chirp it is probably a warped rotor.

I used the brake cleaner (any brand) on my sportbike with no problems...That was how I prep'd the bike before track days...

I would not use anything on the pads,[friction surface], except for brake cleaner. any antisqueal stuff you put on the metal side during pad install and it sets up like silicone and prevents the little vibrations between the pad and rotor by holding the pad to the caliper as one. I was just afraid you'd get the wrong idea about the automotive squeal preventer. Hey, I've seen it done>

I also remember that after I changed out my Harley rotors to floaters there was no more squeak.....
