Sorry people I forgot to add this question to my last post can you put a heel to toe shifter (rocker shifter) on the speedmaster? If so how hard is it to do?

It is very easy to do and yes you can. Some of the other guys will chime in I am sure but I have heard some complaints about the size of the heel toe shifter.

Love mine. I wear suits to work and hated ruining every left shoe I owned with a shifter mark on the top. I bought the Triumph piece. If I were building one, I'd shape it ever so slightly different so you could use it without lifting your foot from the peg, but I got used to it in a day or so. Wouldn't want a cruiser without one...

I consider that black scuff mark that is on every left shoe I own a badge of honor! Wear your shifter scuff proudly!

In their native state, the Triumph heel & toe shifters are not so hot. The space between the front and back is around a lady's size 3, and the heel pedal is mighty high.
The good news is, if you're willing to saw the half moon slot out, and saw down the rear pedal, you can mod them to work a little better.

kellie, member LarryShep would be the one to ask about modifying the Triumph HT shifter. he has done a few of them and might offer some guidance.

If you will look in the photo section you will see a photo of the modified heel/toe shifter that I use on my bike. If you would like to know what I did to it to make it work better just contact me and I will be glad to be of any help that I can.

Hi larryshep. I like how you fixed your shifter. How did you straighten the arm? When you straightened it did you have any problem with the chrome flaking off? And finally, how did you fuss the mounting bolt to reduce the length of the shoulder? It looks good... Steve

I take the shift knobs off and clamp the shifter down to a solid metal table at the pivot point with a large "C" clamp. then used a pc of oak and place it on the back part of the shifter and slowly pull it down to the table with another "C" clamp to within 7/16" to 1/2" at the rear knob mounting point. You will have to slightly bend the tip of the heel section to align it so the front and rear shift knobs will align. I also use a die grinder to raise the "half moon slot" about an extra 1/4" to allow the shifter to be adjusted more downward at the rear. Push the rubber shift pcs off of the bolts and cut them down to 4 rings in the front and three in the back and then cut the shift knob bolts down to the rubber length. just cut them completely off. Then drilled and tapped the shortened bolts to the proper size (8mm as I recall-I would have to check as I do not remember)I used set screws about 3/4" long and lock tite them in the cut off pins, push the rubber cut off pcs back on and install them. I had no trouble with chrome flaking or chipping. I try to align the rear part of the shifter with the shift rod. This works equally well with the floor boards and the peg set up as well. The last one I made I extended the shift rod 1/2" by cuttting it into and welding a 1/2" pc of round stock to make it longer (this gives you a bit more adjustment- I cut it and welded it at the front section so it will not be noticeable. A little silver paint inside of the half moon section that is taken out with the die grinder keeps it from rusting. Hope this helps...sorry I am not very good at this writing but hope you get the idea.

Great explanation Larry. I've ridden mert's bike with that modified shifter, works great for my big hoofs (once I got used to it).

Thanks Larry, appreciate your explanation. I bought one but didn't like it so took it off again. I'll sort this and put it back on.
