I have come across the following article in Australian Motor Cycle which is of great interest to us all, looks like only USA will get it at this stage.
"TRIUMPH TESTS A SUPER BONNEVILLE AMERICA"
Triumph is said to be testing a 1530cc parallel-twin cruiser for the crucial US market, aimed at filling the gap between the 800cc Bonneville America and the 2.3 litre Rocket 3. The as yet unnamed new bike's engine will be a liquid cooled,DOHC,eight valve parallel=twin, and is understood to use two 101.6mm x 94.3mm cylinders from the Rocket 3 engine, rotated 90 degrees to be mounted across the frame. The engine will also have a 270-degree crankshaft throw-crucial for the American cruiser customer at which the model will be targeted-as well as a five speed gearbox and shaft final drive. The beefed up Bonneville wont hit showrooms until 2007,by which time, its rumoured,Triumph will have released a touring version of the Rocket 3 with luggage and a screen. Also due from Hinckley is a 1050cc revamp of its 955i Daytona sportsbike, using the long stroke engine from the Sprint ST and Speed Triple. Triumph is finalising its new three cylinder 680cc Daytona sportsbike, and working on a Speed Triple version to replace the Speed Four nakedbike, plus a Bonneville Street Scrambler. Both the 680 Daytona and Bonneville Street Scrambler are to go on sale in Australia in mid- 2006"
So ,there we have it with the latest news from down under, heres hoping Triumph have the foresight to let the rest of the world share in the 1500cc version and not USA alone.
Cheers for now and keep smiling. Stevew N.S.W. Australia

Too bad we can't economically convert ours to a 1200 like the previous Sportsters...THAT would be cool!

Stevew - Wow! Thanks for the post. That bike sounds like a monster. I think we all figure Triumph's planning to launch something like that soon. VERY interesting.
Rider magazine just did a piece on the new 650 Daytona - said it was the sleeper of the 600 sportbike class and had a lot of good things to say about it.
Dannyboy - convert our 790's to something like the 1500? Oh my!

I think this was posted on here a while back, and my reaction to it is the same... Water cooled = Radioator = Ugly I'll reserve final judgement, however, until I see it.

I could be all over that 680cc triple :-) By the time it hits the U.S. market, I might actually be able to afford a cardboard box to put over it, along with my beloved Speedmaster

If they do it right, it could be okay. I wouldn't use the Rocket III or the Tbird as my model. Doesn't the new Street Rod have a pretty cool look on the front?

The Harley Street Rod, and even the V Rod, are very nice looking bikes (though typically Harley expensive). Maybe that's why the "regular" Harley guys don't like them: they're not ugly enough. chuckle

He said it won't be out 'till '07! you have a whole year and a half to knock out a wall and make room.

Radioator? Nice spelling by me eh? Yeah, the V Rod and Harley Street Rod are pretty slick. This isn't HD though, it's Triumph. I'm looking at their current examples. It's entirely possible it'll look good. I certainly hope so! I know it's not fair of me to judge before seeing it. I do find the idea of a cruiser from Triumph in that size an exciting one. I really hope they do it! It'd be another welcome addition to the me-too V-Twin cruiser wold. Considering our "little" 790cc Triumphs will hang with the big cruisers when modded out a little, I'd love to see what Triumph could do with 740 more cc's. Lord know's we've all seen what they are capable of with the Rocket III. I always love the speculation before a product release. I'm an Apple Computer fanatic, so I thrive off product release speculation.

I agree with you, Dan. The R-3 is no beauty contest winner and I'm not a huge fan even after riding it. If they loose a cylinder and turn the engine, the new America may have some possiblities though. But they are getting further and further away from the classic look, which is a BIG reason I bought my TBA in the first place. But it can't be uglier then the R-3 , so lets wait and see. -PES

PES - one thing about the Rocket that I learned a few days ago... It's much less ugly when you are the one sitting on it and twisting the throttle...

This is some good positive news. I was hoping for a triple, but they want to save money on piston castings and whatnot. I wanted a triple because I love smooth delivery of power. The only smooth twin I've ever ridden was the old Nortons, and they weren't smooth through the entire powerband. I just thought they could do a 1400cc triple and give it a classic cruiser look. Don't get me wrong. I already want one of the future models, but my TBA is the last twin I'll own unless they prove me wrong on the vibratory aspect of internal combustion generated horsepower. If I want a 100 HP vibrator, the local HD boutique has a vast array to choose from. But again, the Hardleys sound too much like Yamahas. Depending on what Triumph shows me, I may end up with the Rocket3 Tourer. Ya'll Ride Safe, Dennis

"a whole year and a half to knock out a wall and make room"
And if the other half doesn't like the idea, put her in the new room, and brick the wall back up again!! Worked for Poe ya know...

How much more performance do you think we'll get after you add the weight of larger cylinders, water cooling, a shaftdrive and the other additional "beefing up" over what we have now with an additional 500 or so CC's?
All that is required for evil to triumph, is for good men to stand by and do nothing.

I dunno, but I'm trying to find out where Zaphod got his third arm so I can hang on better.

Lessee..... 1530/1000 = 1.53 * 61 = 93.33. Hmmm, 93 cubic inches? And still a twin? I think I could live with that. Now that I see how big it is in real numbers, I like it.

SOMEBODY has to say this, so it might as well be me. Triumph needs to take one cylinder from the 2300 triple {2300 / 3 = 766.666} and make a thumper, ala Matchless and BSA. Now there would be a bike with character! In fact, they could put the engine in the Tiger for a great trail bike, and put it in the Thruxton for a classic '50's Brit racing version.

Wow, I just went from PUMPED to bummed. I have to agree with PES that a major reason for buying my TBA was that "old school cool". For my personal taste I just don't see how that can happen with a one-two punch like liquid-cooled and shaft-drive. I HOPE I AM WRONG! But for now the 1500 has lost it's reserved spot in the garage. I will remain hopeful, but it will have to earn it's way back in.

I bet it will still look cool. I am already saving money! I may even have my America paid for by then. That is, if I can stop adding stuff to it instead of paying it off early like I should be!
