Dang what a day- there must be some grump water going around (no offense, Grump). I bought some pipes over the phone today and the lady that sold them to me seemed very knowledgeable. She was talking about the different types of baffles and wraps, tuning chambers, and all kinds of technical talk. I asked about how restrictive the baffles were on the pair I was buying and if they were removable- I like loud pipes. Out of nowhere, I got the lecture about how my attitude was the "wrong" one and how legislators all over the country were clamping down on nuisance motorcycles. She didn't want to be pointed at when she went down the road on her... you guessed it... Harley. She wanted to "just get along with my neighbors and enjoy my sport". Weeellllllll- I LIKE LOUD PIPES. They make me happy. As for my neighbors- they don’t mind them. They all come over and check out the SM every now and then. There are other bikes on the block, too. I found it funny that she was lecturing me on how to enjoy riding, by telling me that I was wrong about what I believe constitutes enjoyable time spent on a motorcycle- some irony there, huh?

So if I got it straight, I can only be allowed to enjoy riding if I give into the pressures of others and sheepishly follow the heard by adopting the opinions given to me. Horsepucky. Let em' ring (if you want to)...

Thats a woman, to just get along with the neighbors.... What a way to live life, just to be average and offend no one ( not to say that offending other should be the goal ), make the world a peace filled joy shop, how luscious!

Could be she's looking out for her business,
If the Empire launches a campange against loud pipes, and starts inspections do to Citizen complaints. If could realy hurt the after market manufactures and retailers.

Don't even have to launch a NEW campaign...the EPA regulations on loud pipes ALREADY exist and are QUITE strict...all that has to happen is p!ss someone off enough for them to enforce them...and then hold onto your wallet cause it's BIG bucks!

I would have bought my pipes somwhere else. I wonder if she thought about pleasing you as a customer rather than trying to give you a lesson on HER veiw.

I think what she was trying to explain was that those few that abuse will cause everyone to pay the price. So pipes with no baffles are an extreme of loud that annoy many people. Especially non-riders, the majority. So when they ban them everyone will pay the price in the form of all after market pipes becomming illegal.

Will it happen? I think sooner or later it will.
- Happened with aftermarket pipes on snowmobiles in many states
- Happened on this site with custom avatars last week.

I think she had an OK point, I just think someone selling pipes over the phone should know the time and place to explain it... which really isn't on the phone with the customer.

Everyone knows emissions are only going to get more restrictive. I guess now we know it was my fault- sorry everyone.

I thought about ordering the pipes from somone else, but I found an incredible deal- which I'll share- if it pans out to actually work. It is my belief that pipes from a 92-93 FXH shold have a universal type slide and barrell type mount, much like the JC whitney pipes. If that is the case, they should be workable. I bought some JCW's from a guy on this site, but they are way too restrictive and I ruined one trying to get the baffels out. I found some Harley turnouts for $20- NEW. The place is KhromeWerks. They have them in their closeout site in slash and turnout for $20!!!! I'll let you know if they work out....
