I just got my bonnie america last weekend and am extremely pleased with it. It handles great and I am smoking hardleys and jap cruisers on my favorite twisty road here in TN. It just sounds like a sewing machine though. I am looking at a set of TOR's and would like to know what I can expect out of them vs. drilling my stockers or going with something else. Oh yeah, should I rejet or anything else to get some decent performance gains?

06 BA, TOR's, 17T front sprocket, 135/42, needles shimmed, AI removed, drilled airbox, K&N air filter, desnorked, SM seat and risers, drag bars, pro-grips....let's ride!!

Welcome to the group! There are dozens of threads on this. Some go with TORs, some go aftermarket, some drill holes in baffles, some remove the baffels. The performance improvements are very good. Estimated between 6-10 hp at the rear tire. It is recommended that you rejet, and necessary to remove the AI system or it will pop on decel like crazy. Use the search function on this forum or just look back in technical talk > exhaust under beat out baffels. TONS of info on this. I personally have had D&D's , totally gutted out America stockers, and have a set of JC Whitney turnouts on the way (which will be hollowed out ASAP. I like loud pipes!). If your BA (Bonniville America) is an 07, it will be hard to drill or gut the pipes due to the peashooter design. There are alternatives from cheap to high dollar. Check the classifieds in this site. I sent a "wanted" thread out and got offers for some gutted TOR shorty's and the JCW set that I bought. the guy selling the TORS might still have them and want to sell them here http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/forums/...true#Post196085

If it were mine, and I was looking at new exhaust, I'd:
Go to http://www.newspeedmaster.com/ and get a jet kit, carb screw kit, "D" tool or thumb screws, and AI removal kit. then, pick some pipes that I like the looks of. For there I'd find that style withthe level of sound db that suits me. Some are loud, some very loud, some are tunable. Either way, the stock one are VERY restrictive and just gotta go!

Hi Benny and welcome.

If you go to the Exhaust forum itself (not in a thread) and scroll down to the bottom, you can change your view (the default is 3 months) to include every thread ever. Might be a bit of reading!

You can also use the Search function near the top of the page. Confine your search the Exhaust and put in 200 for the months to maximize. Use terms like:
exhaust +baffle
remove +baffle
drill +baffle

to get the best results.

To answer your question though..... I was there about 5 years ago and started with drilling out baffles on the TORs. This will get you 'some' sound without having to rejet. If you go further and either beat out or completely drill out all the baffles, you should rejet to about 128-130 (mains). I eventually moved to aftermarket SS pipes and you definitely need to rejet with these.

If you have not, get an AI removal kit (http://www.newspeedmaster.com has them and become familiar with them (Brent is the MAN) as you will be buying and/or coveting his products! ) as this kit will keep your pipes from bluing.

Go to http://www.dinqua.com to learn about the carbs on our bikes (and how to make beer!).

Keep asking questions. It's the best way I know to learn!
