it seems most owners of Americas remove the air injection,in simple terms what are the advantages of doing this?

Bike runs a little bit cooler, thus keeping your header pipes from over heating and turning blue.

As easy as it is I STILL have not done this. I remember the dealer in Denver had them in stock, I almost bought it but I decided on beer. I need to hook it up, Its gonna be part of my next service. I need to take her apart to finish the paint on my tank, change the oil and put new tires on.

recycling the exhaust gases robs power.

The air injector is not an EGR system. It squirts some fresh air into the exhaust port during the low pressure pulse that happens just after the exhaust valve closes and inertia is still pulling the exhaust down the pipe. It could probably heat up the valve some and shorten its life though.

Removal offers other benefits as well. Makes getting at your plugs easier. It looks better without the AI stacks. I'm with GB on the performance. It just makes your engine run cooler and "helps" keep your headers from bluing. Mine have turned a little blue and gold even with it removed since new.
