Can the shifter lever be adjusted for larger boots etc? I don't have particularly large feet but the distance between the foot peg and the shifter makes it difficult to get my foot out. No mention of an adjustment in the owner's manual or service manual.

Yes, there are 2 adjustments. The control rod has adjustable ends and, should that not be enough for what you want, the lever at the gearbox is splined on so you can pop it off and move it on the shaft. You have to take the bolt out of the hole to do this, shift shafts are universally groved so that the lever won't fall off if the nut is loose but the bolt is still in place.

Thanks Greybeard. I would think that should be covered in the manual. Getting a foot caught in there can be disaterous.

Be sure to mark your factory starting point. I decided to play around a little with mine and moved it on the spline - even just a slight change made the bike shift horribly so I put it back to the factory setting which took a few tries. Moving on the spline made for some very odd lever travel, kind of hard to explain but just felt wrong to my foot.

Luckily, I did mark the original position before I moved it. I only moved it one spline over and my boot now fits but I haven't test ridden it yet.(It feels O.K. just sitting on it) Since you moved yours back, did you then adjust it by the nuts on the lever and if so, did you get enough adjustment?

Robert, Any how did you do? Better? Worse? I am going to look at the adjustments on the control rod, to see if I can accomplish what I need without having to "re-spline". I don't need much, it's really not a problem, although a little more clearance would be good.

2 caveats.. I would only move the lever 1 spline, and that should be more than enough unless you wear diving boots when you ride. Second, if you are adjusting the length of the shift rod, make sure you have enough threads going into both ends, and a dab of loctite here wouldn't hurt either...

I haven't taken it for a test ride but I only needed to move it one spline to get the desired boot clearance. It feels fine just sitting on it and shifting but we will see. Its been cold and snow so it has to sit. Anyway, I figured that would be easier than messing with the adjustment nuts.
